After a year of hard fighting there are a rush of observers trying to make sense of the current balance of power in Ukraine. The focus in often on (often small) movements in the frontlines, casualties, or the performance of particular platforms and systems.
Those things matter, but wars are not generally fought to take individual trenches or solely to inflict casualties. They are fought for strategic objectives.
In this episode I dig into Russia's history of Empire, its modern strategic objectives, and try to assess whether or not the war in Ukraine represents a success or failure by Russia's own chosen metrics (as far as they can be determined). My suggestion is that in repeating a number of the mistakes previously made by leaders of the Russian Empire and Soviet Union, it can be argued that Putin has already condemned the Russian federation to a strategic reverse.
What remains to be seen, is whether Ukraine can win a victory from Russia's defeat, or if it will be left to lose as well.
Ukraine is what doesn't resemble a free country. Zelensky has imprisoned opposition leaders, shutdown opposition parties, banned opposition media outlets and shutdown churches.
Everything you and your ilk claim is true about Russia is really true of Ukraine.
Amen
you dint watch the video, did you...
it makes no predictions.
100% and $10 says half dint watch the video...
There is nothing to predict. Ukraine has absolutely no chance of taking back any territory its lost. No one with half a brain believes otherwise.
i doubt even old Nevil would buy that one
You're an idiot, spewing outlandish narratives.
We're the ones that did everything we could to make the war in Ukraine happen.
We meddled in Ukraine, fomented a revolution, installed a government illegally and setoff a civil war. We trained and funded neo-Nazis and Ukrainian nationalists and encouraged them to slaughter the ethnic Russian population.
We armed Ukraine, trained their soldiers, ran biolabs with deadly pathogens in them there and teased NATO membership for Ukraine. If Russia or China were doing that in Mexico, we'd invade and remove the threat.
Everything you posted here is a lie.
that’s the whole point, he DOESN’T say so!
he pretty much never takes a position, just gives options
he gives you numbers and lets you decide...
but you do have to watch it first
he doesn’t talk about reclaiming land
he asks the listener to make up their own minds
that’s the reason i post from him as he doesn’t come from one side or the other, even if the titles are sometimes provocative
I thought you and Speedy were equally yuh insane but wow you’ve gone way way beyond.
We will run out before Russia and that really is the only thing that matters.
The US will “run out” in something over a century, and definitely longer given that reserves are constantly expanding. And of course in not too long tech and economic change will make our argument moot. Let’s give this dispute a window of argumentation, say 20 years.
Then why has Ukraine already taken back territory its lost?
Hmm. His propagandists on Russian TV have said otherwise quite often.
“We’re the ones that did everything we could to make the war in Ukraine happen.”
Yes, by approving Nordstream II and withdrawing from Afghanistan, and looking weak and useless.
Russia has destroyed any chance of Western, or probably if they have any sense, neutral, investment in Russia for the next generation.
Yes, Russia can try to “partner” with China. That’s exactly the trap China would like.
Even if we see real shortages, that guarantees a pro-petro President & Congress being elected in 2024.
Problem solved in short order.

- As Russia’s special military operation reaches the one year mark, we wonder what is happening now and what will happen next;
- Equally important is what started this conflict;
- NATO has repeatedly attacked and destroyed allies of Russia around the globe throughout the 21st century;
- NATO has also constantly encroached eastward toward Russia’s borders;
- The Western media admits that the US has repeatedly overthrown nations along Russia’s borders and installed client regimes in their place;
- The Western media also admits that these nations pose a threat to Russia including Georgia which in 2008 actually attacked Russian forces;
- Ukraine from 2014 onward was a repeat of US meddling in Georgia that left Russia with only one choice, not if conflict would come but when it would be fought? At a time convenient for NATO or for Russia?
- The US is pursuing a similar campaign of encroachment, encirclement, and proxy war with China giving Beijing every reason to support Russia in its current operations in Ukraine;
There is no chance in hell we'd tolerate China or Russia doing in Mexico what we did in Ukraine.
And, the Russians consistently sought peace -- with the Minsk Accords; by seeking to negotiate to avoid war in December of 2021 and by negotiating an end to it in March. At every turn, WE pushed for war.
We wanted this proxy war because the powers that be that they could win and then rape Russia of money and resources like we've done in Ukraine.
The Ukrainian military hasn't won a single battle against the Russian military nor is it possible that could.
