An Alaska woman pleaded guilty to killing her "best friend" after a man she met online said he would pay her $9 million if she sent him photos and videos of her committing murder.
Denali Brehmer, 22, pleaded guilty Wednesday to first-degree murder in the June 2019 death of Cynthia Hoffman, the Alaska Department of Law said.
Hoffman, 19, died from a gunshot wound to the back of the head. Her body was dumped in the Eklutna River, about 27 miles northeast of Anchorage, court documents state.
The Anchorage District Attorney’s Office previously said that Brehmer, who was 18 at the time of the crime, started planning the murder after a man she met online told her that he would give her money in exchange for evidence of her killing someone.
Brehmer knew the man as "Tyler" and had begun a relationship with him, but authorities said he had catfished her and created a fake persona as a millionaire from Kansas. His real name is Darin Schilmiller from Indiana, authorities said.
Court documents state that Brehmer and Schilmiller started planning several crimes in exchange for money, including the "rape and murder of someone in Alaska."
Brehmer chose Hoffman as the victim and recruited four friends —Kayden McIntosh, Caleb Leyland, and two other unnamed juveniles — to help her, according to authorities. Brehmer told them they would get "substantial shares of money" for helping her kill Hoffman.

I know, and apparently the victim had some developmental issues which is why Brehmer targeted her, I think, because she would be easier to manipulate.

I didn’t know there were rules about this? The entire article was where I first read it at MSN so I worked from that. I am trying to be more careful about checking the copyright list, too, before I post.
The State of Alaska filed murder charges just days after federal prosecutors arrested Schilmiller in a separate but tangential case: production and attempted solicitation of child pornography.
Don’t say ‘catfished’, just say he used a fake persona.
That type of jargon only makes reading more tedious, in an effort to sound ‘Cool’. Same thing with ‘gaslighting’.
Just say what you mean.
Several acquaintances of Schilmiller’s have told KTUU Schilmiller’s affinity for images of young children was well-known—an open secret they didn’t recognize as a deepening problem.
And yes..some people are this stupid. Guess which party people like this vote for?

I posted the headline, which includes that word. This is how I understood we are supposed to post. But even so, catfishing is a commonly used term these days and has a particular meaning, although no shame if you lack familiarity with it. You don’t know what you don’t know.

AMEN to that! All these internet “reporters” and bloggers are always fabricating new words that really interfere with comprehension.
But, honestly, it’s a lost cause. I can’t see FReepers editing articles to expunge the garbage words.
You can get the teen girls to help. I had to pull my nieces out of some sheeite.
