The Trump administration has finalized a roll back of Obama-era regulations for oil trains.
The rules, which date back to 2015, required railroads carrying crude oil or other flammable liquids to outfit their trains with more responsive electronic braking systems. The rules came in response to concerns about explosions and spills from mile-long trains of crude and ethanol. In the Northwest, those trains move along the Columbia River and through cities to coastal refineries.
The U.S. Department of Transportation, which has been working on rescinding the rules since last December, said in statement this week that its analysis showed the cost of requiring railroads to equip trains with the new brakes outweighed the potential benefits.
The rail industry has resisted the new braking requirements. The American Association of Railroads, a freight rail industry group, had previously attempted to appeal the Obama administration’s decision, stating that the rules imposed unreasonably high costs to railroads and that the government had overstated the benefits of the brakes.
Why are you posting this? Are you making a connection between this deregulation and the recent train accident? Do you have any basis for this connection?
So deregulation caused the train derailment?
Right, as soon as we have multiple train derailments under the current administration some AH has to post “what about Trump?”. GTFU
babble is NeverTrump.
Sounds like he is babbling on, doesn’t it? Trump did it? LOL. That won’t fly anymore.
Biden is in office for over 2 years. It is BIDEN’s regulators that are responsible for anything that happens under their watch.
Babbling, derailments happen from sabotage and things blocking the train. Brakes don’t block or derail trains. Brakes are never the root cause of a train derailment.
Your brain is stupid.
Love ya!

Yeah, but you know when Trump runs the media will run this 24/7 whether it’s true or not.
Exactly. Biden rolled back everything else Trump did, why not the train stuff? And where’s the pipeline when you need it?
If it is true that this train carried on for over 20 miles with a grinding and sparking axle then the railroad will be way more than liable for all this. Maybe even criminally liable.
I see, so the recent (staged) train derailments are not Buttgig’s fault. It’s Trump’s fault, yes?
Balloons too. Trump’s fault.
Classified Docs? Everybody does it. Right?
How is an excuse for the Ukraine fiasco worked in? Not out yet? Ah .... I know ..... Trump was colluding with Putin, yeah, bet that’s it.
NeverTrumpers, here, tend to post DS/Uniparty leaning posts.
Unreal, to see on this conservative forum, isn’t it?
Let him babble on.....
Ahhh...I get it! Trump’s fault.
Might have helped some but not much. The wreck in Ohio was caused by a failed bearing, which locked up and then caused one end of the axle to burn off. Once both sides of the wheel set were no longer captured in the truck they were mounted in, the wheel swung around and cause everything to come off the track. Then the weight of the train remaining on the track, even with the brakes on all the cars in emergency, started to pile into the wrecked cars like an accordion. So really, locking up the wheels a split second sooner would not have done much to change what actually happened.
So, tougher regulation of the railroad companies seems like something everyone ought to support from now on, right? Not ex post lawsuits, but actual ex ante safety requirements.
These train derailments never would have happened if we just passed an assault weapons ban, once and for all!
Right?
