We think it’s a cute child with a bow. In Roman days the bow was deadly and would be seen as a weapon as we would view an AK or AR. Furthermore falling in love was seen as leading to tragedy and loss of reasoning.

To them, Cupid was an irresponsible child with an AK47 randomly shooting innocent men to their destruction.

He’s from Greek mythology.

However, yes, he’s been commercialized as something he never was...

We kicked St. Valentine off the Catholic General Roman Calendar in ‘69.

I didn’t expect ya’ll to create demon fear on Valentine’s day, but should have. Thieves of fun and joy.
Prior to St Valentine the holiday was called Lupercalia.

We have a fair number of pre-Christian traditions that have continued into our modern world (cupid, astrology, the Easter Bunny).

Not great, but all of them are minor threats compared to the overwhelming assault Christianity faces from modern secularism.

Third-century Roman priest Valentinus was brutally beaten and beheaded after marrying couples in defiance of Emperor Claudius II’s ban on the sacrament of marriage on this day in history, Feb. 14, 270 A.D.

“When Valentine’s actions were discovered, Claudius ordered that he be put to death,” says History.com.

“Valentine was arrested and dragged before the Prefect of Rome, who condemned him to be beaten to death with clubs and to have his head cut off. The sentence was carried out on February 14, on or about the year 270.”

There is no Cupid. However, I must acknowledge the demons that I exorcize from my body while sitting on the toilet. Happy VD everyone!

I always felt that was a weird “holiday” to celebrate love.

As you know, it's a feast day for the saint. St Valentine died for the faith, legend has it on this day.

The gubmint told him to not perform the sacrament of marriage, and he did it anyway. God won't be denied, even in the face of death.

The fact that that defense of the faith has been shape-shifted into a day to celebrate love isnt TOO far removed from the principle.

If I really wanted to be dogmatic, only men and women in their first marriage should celebrate St Valentine's Day. That discussion can be saved for another day.
