We think it’s a cute child with a bow. In Roman days the bow was deadly and would be seen as a weapon as we would view an AK or AR. Furthermore falling in love was seen as leading to tragedy and loss of reasoning.
To them, Cupid was an irresponsible child with an AK47 randomly shooting innocent men to their destruction.

Our word "venom" comes from the Latin word venenum meaning poison, which comes from the name of the goddess of love, Venus. Potions intended to make someone else fall in love with you could be dangerous and actually cause his or her death.
