I just got off the phone with my niece, who lives near the MSU campus. She says they’re fine, but the shooter is still on the loose — apparently on foot. They could hear the helicopters over their house.

MSU’s campus is locked down for at least 48 hours and everything in East Lansing is shut down tomorrow. I think she said neighboring Okemos was too.

Scary situation.

When they cannot tie the shooter to MAGA or the NRA, it will fall off of all TV stations with the exception of Newsmax and FNC, and by the weekend it will be so far down on google search that you have to go three layers deep to even read about it.

That's absurd. If there's a news babe on camera describing it while shots are ringing out in the background, that is "happening right now."

If it's in print media (even if it's digitally printed), at the instant they hit the key to send it, they don't AND CAN'T know whether the event will have been concluded in the length of time it takes the story to travel over the internet and appear on a news consumer's monitor.

Nor do they change the headline or take down the story once the incident is at an end. It's hardly "happening right now" if someone stumbles across that story 11 years later.

What it is is sensational journalism, period, end of story.
