Farmington, N.M. has the fastest-rising housing costs in the United States, according to a new report from the National Association of Realtors scanning home prices across the nation.

Communities in Florida and North Carolina took up seven of the top 10 metro areas with the fastest-growing home prices, with the North Port-Sarasota-Bradenton area coming in second.

The report found that prices for single-family homes increased in nearly 90 percent of all metro areas, with the median price increasing by 4 percent from the same time last year to $378,700. The report looked at changes in housing prices in 186 metropolitan areas across the country.

I love Farmington NM. Lived there in 1954-1956 and 1973-1977. To the North is the San Juan mountains and La Plata mountains, Durango, Silverton railroad, and Pagosa Springs.

Should have bought the house I rented back then, when it went up for sale for $19,000.

Wish I was there now.

“I live in the #2 fastest growing area in the country. It feels like it and I don’t like it.”

We might live nearby. I live in Nokomis.

The brutal Northern weather up north has made me glad to be here again.

The main problem with growth is traffic. I’ve seen far more serious ‘accidents’ in the past few years.

I used to enjoy driving here but the last 5-10 years I get road rage every time I get behind the wheel. Too many people for this area and they keep building more housing. It’s going to be like LA bumper to bumper traffic soon. I75 is regularly bumper to bumper already in the morning southbound and bumper to bumper 3pm-7pm northbound all the way past Bradenton

Been here since 1988. It was a nice slow paced town back then. I could drive to Siesta Key from east of the interstate in under 10 minutes back then, Less traffic lights, not it would take 30-45 minutes easy, guaranteed to stop at every light and feels like we’re being herded like cattle instead of driving on the open road.
