Today we have 'Heat Recovery Ventilation' (HRV) for fresh air with less energy loss and no snow drifts.
We have always kept the house cool on winter nights, with heated floors and a heated toilet seat not bad. More so since ahole shut down the pipeline, sending my gas bill to the moon and forcing me to use the heat pump; less cost but less comfort.
Ha! Pretty sure this article sponsored by the climate change zealots lol.
Let’s all freeze and be happy!
Heat pumps are the order of the day where I am.......it drys out the air too much to suit me.....makes my sinuses bleed.......
Reminds me of being in Prague during a ‘Siberian Blast” Christmas week. Never got above five below. We were in a crowded cafe, all the smokers were unfazed. It was hermetically sealed. Every 15 minutes the waitress/owner opened both entry doors wide, circulating the dense smoky air. It was like torture but it had to be done.
That’s ventilation.
“On very cold nights, it’s advisable to warm up a little, on top of keeping the room ventilated. Use a radiator that’s less drying than an air conditioner. If you still choose an air conditioner, set it to a temperature of up to 22 degrees so that it dries out the air less. “
An AC in cooling mode dehumidifies.
After years of winter sores in the mucosa of the nostrils, I finally wised up and got a humidifier for the bedroom and den. It works. No sores!
Turn off the heat and open your windows to live longer.
Uh-huh… do these “professionals” recall that drafty houses were considered the cause of all the colds in the winter for letting the viruses in and the cold lowering the bodies immune response?
Science my a…

i’ve been here 20yar and my bedroom window is one foot in front of my head and is always open an inch all winter
i heat wi coal
I just eat a lot of oranges and lemons and keep a coffee can of water on the propane-modified Dearborn.
My bedroom has also been called The Refrigerator. Can’t sleep without at least a little fresh air. I’m in Seattle so noot usually THAT bad.
We’ve been heating with the wood stove most of the winter and as long as the weather is reasonably mild, we leave a window in the living room opened about an inch, which does give us fresh air.
We do like to keep the thermostat down to low 60’s at night, although it does make for chilly midnight trips to the bathroom.
We rarely need AC but during high pollen season and on high pollen days, it’s better than dealing with the allergies.
I like to keep my bedroom cool at night so I can get under the blankets. I have the bedroom windows at least cracked open most of the year. I live in Connecticut.
***A friend kept his bedroom window open about one inch, all winter long!!!***
All of us who had a gas space heater in the bedroom did the same.
Two of my dad’s friends died years ago when a blizzard came through and they shut themselves up in a bedroom with a kerosene heater. CO is a killer.
My aunt came down with severe mental problems when a leak developed in her central heat exhaust system allowing CO back into her room.
Keep a window open just a crack will help prevent this.
What is this “heating” y’all are talking about?
Have a sweatshirt for cold mornings.
Ah yes! Let’s all turn off our heat and rid ourselves of those evil gas stoves in order to improve our health and save the planet. Shivering in the cold with no heat or light will be so much better for us all!
It’s easy to spot how they introduce their intentions. First they produce a article about ridding the nation of gas stoves. Next they complain that “Republicans pounce” and no one is intending to mandate a ban on gas stoves. Next, they tell us they are banning gas stoves for our health.
These people are evil!
