Winter can take some of the blame, but the cold isn't really the cause of the illnesses around us. The real culprit for catching viruses is a lack of ventilation. Let's discuss one significant obstacle to health every winter - the heating.
It's true that it's important to keep the body warm so that it remains healthy and stimulates blood circulation, but don't exaggerate. Any doctor will confirm that there's no need to overheat rooms. On the contrary, ventilating the spaces can reduce the chance of infection.

Today we have 'Heat Recovery Ventilation' (HRV) for fresh air with less energy loss and no snow drifts.
We have always kept the house cool on winter nights, with heated floors and a heated toilet seat not bad. More so since ahole shut down the pipeline, sending my gas bill to the moon and forcing me to use the heat pump; less cost but less comfort.
Ha! Pretty sure this article sponsored by the climate change zealots lol.
Let’s all freeze and be happy!
Heat pumps are the order of the day where I am.......it drys out the air too much to suit me.....makes my sinuses bleed.......
It’s becoming blatant. The propaganda across the media is terrible and is getting worse.
Reminds me of being in Prague during a ‘Siberian Blast” Christmas week. Never got above five below. We were in a crowded cafe, all the smokers were unfazed. It was hermetically sealed. Every 15 minutes the waitress/owner opened both entry doors wide, circulating the dense smoky air. It was like torture but it had to be done.
That’s ventilation.
“On very cold nights, it’s advisable to warm up a little, on top of keeping the room ventilated. Use a radiator that’s less drying than an air conditioner. If you still choose an air conditioner, set it to a temperature of up to 22 degrees so that it dries out the air less. “
An AC in cooling mode dehumidifies.

First thing I thought of. We’re to become reptilian
Next thing they’ll be saying we should hibernate all winter.
Just think of the resources that would save.

Heating air causes the air to expand while the water vapor remains a fixed amount; therefore lower humidity.
The source of the heat does not change anything, the humidity remains the same.
Perhaps it is Jevons Paradox at work; more efficient so you use more of it?
I see this with our Air Conditioning in the summer.
“We were in a crowded cafe, all the smokers”
#1 reason I will never visit europe.
After years of winter sores in the mucosa of the nostrils, I finally wised up and got a humidifier for the bedroom and den. It works. No sores!
Turn off the heat and open your windows to live longer.

YES, but less so as the room temperature setting increases.
Uh-huh… do these “professionals” recall that drafty houses were considered the cause of all the colds in the winter for letting the viruses in and the cold lowering the bodies immune response?
Science my a…

ASHRAE recommends 0.35 air changes per hour; an old house might have a change rate of 2.0 air changes per hour.
No need to open a window.
“YES, but less so as the room temperature setting increases.”
Article refers to heating mode.
The worst virus I ever endured I got from being in a closed crowded room during a weekend conference in the winter Germany where the doors are shut with gaskets like in a Volkswagen.
100%
i’ve been here 20yar and my bedroom window is one foot in front of my head and is always open an inch all winter

I just eat a lot of oranges and lemons and keep a coffee can of water on the propane-modified Dearborn.
