Estimates say it killed 830,000 people.
Humans have documented earthquakes for nearly 4,000 years. Of those recorded, the deadliest occurred in China. On January 23, 1556, a powerful quake rocked the province of Shaanxi and the neighboring province of Shanxi, killing an estimated 830,000 people.
Historical records often refer to the 1556 Shaanxi earthquake as the Jiajing Great Earthquake because it occurred during Emperor Jiajing’s reign in the Ming dynasty. The approximate death toll comes from local annals that also tracked 26 earthquakes in the region. In those records, the earthquake is starkly different from others: they describe leveled mountains, floods, fires that burned for days and a drastically altered landscape. The annals estimated that some counties lost about 60 percent of their population.
Even though the death toll is in question, the Shaanxi earthquake is considered the deadliest earthquake because its casualties are much higher than any other disaster. (The second deadliest recorded earthquake next to Shaanxi was the 2004 earthquake and tsunami in the Indian Ocean that killed an estimated 230,000 people across Indonesia, Thailand, Sri Lanka and India.)

Well yes, obviously.
The biggest Earthqake will be when the book of Revelation is fulfilled. The whole Earth will crumble.
gonna be awesome.
Now. That written, the most expensive earthquake to occur (so far) will be the Mag 8+ earthquake and tsunami now overdue off of Oregon and Washington west coast.
These trip off regularly every 300 to 320 years off of the coast, causing 8 to 12 meter high tsunamis every time.
And the last was recorded very precisely- by Japanese tax records in January 1700. Because they recorded the various Japanese villages destroyed by the tsunami that night.
No. It is the offshore Cascadia fault that trips off regulatly with a Mag 8 every 300 years.
Those others are big, but far more random. Yellowstone, for example, trips off every 500,000 years. Plus or minus 200,000 years.
Good numbers. Thank you.
Good Friday. Yeah I’ve seen several documentaries about that one. That was one huge earthquake! Can’t imagine experiencing that. You must have thought the world was literally coming to an end.
11 years old and home alone.
There are so many natural causes and natural accidents that can kill us, it’s surprising anyone is left alive. :^)
“whoopee, we’re all gonna die”.
And after the first year of crop failures for much of the world, then the wars (nuclear?) will begin as countries take over the remaining areas to grow crops. Not everyone will die, but it will sure be a changed world afterwards.
You got it.
There’s like a 20k year window, so it may take a while.................
