Competence is dead and diversity killed it

Have affirmative action hiring practices caused overall competence to plummet? The record appears to show exactly that.

For no good reasons whatsoever, competence was allowed to die on the vine in order to give the less competent a leg up. Not equality but superiority rules the hiring, firing, and education of Americans. Worse, many of those who were affirmatively hired do not do as good a job as those whose excellence was obvious. You can see it in customer service, which for many businesses is abysmally incompetent. There is a resentful casualness in those who are hired to serve others that would not have been acceptable even two decades ago. The competence level one deals with on a daily basis is on life support.

While there are pockets of the competent in places like Florida and some Southern states, much of America is being run by children with no sense of responsibility or pride in accomplishment. That is because there is little real accomplishment in their lives; children get passed through the public education system having to learn little of value. Instead, they are taught perverse sexual practices and aberrant lifestyles. They are taught how to be activists but are not taught to be competent breadwinners.

It is harder and harder to find good computer techs to service the average home computer user. Instead, salespeople are sent out to do the most basic installations, utterly lacking the sophistication to handle a complex computer problem that may come up. Training in many fields is rudimentary. Surgeons and physicians are being put through university because of their skin color, not necessarily their competence. Ditto pilots. Do you want to fly or get operated on by these hires? I'll pass.

An old construction saw goes “some work fast and some work slow but most work half-fast”. Diversity forces everyone to work half-fast.

It may mean that he can’t do it himself, or it may be simply that doing so voids the warranty. Add in that the heating services company can get high-quality hepa filters at wholesale, whereas he can only get second-tier filters at retail.

Not enough info to decode.

““While there are pockets of the competent in places like Florida and some Southern states, much of America...”

Really?!?”

Really, indeed ... I question your question as I find the original statement essentially true. Where are the businesses that are leaving CA moving to? The south. Where have the Japanese auto makers put their USA manufacturing facilities? The South. Texas, MS, FL, etc. Not all of course but generally true.

I would say that the level of competence is greatly influenced by the work ethic in the South. There is welfare of course, but it is not a badge of honor to be taking it. In general Southern people would rather work than accept handouts.

Has anyone noticed a recent decline in postal competence?

These past six months, I sent two important letters that were lost in the mail. And two important letters that were returned to me (over a month after mailing them), despite have been addressed correctly.

All of these were domestic mail.

The IRS also lost one of my payments, requiring me to resend it with a late fee.

Yes, incompetence is on the rise.

The only way the Woke in this country can embrace the idea that competence and excellence are racist and, at the same time, love all the products and services in their lives resulting from American competence/excellence (this, as you know, being cognitive dissonance) is by keeping their thinking very shallow.

This is why those people who believe competence is racist also believe that George W. Bush was our first President.

This is an opportunity for the young generation who have a sense of success built into them. Now-a-days just showing up willing to work is a huge asset.

I expect that competent straight white men are expected to carry the burden, yet share the credit with their "diverse" colleagues.

I agree that there might not be enough info.

But are you saying that some people actually can't replace their own air filters?

This is new to me.

Competency was killed by Laurence Peter, whose narcissistically named The Peter Principle was a Baby Boomer manifesto against meritocracy and the idea of earned position.

Well, if you're replacing them because you have allergies, then almost by definition the filter is filled with the very thing you're allergic too.

It may not be a question of being able to replace the filter, but rather being unwilling to don a hazmat suit to do it so as not to cause an allergic reaction when you can just pay someone else to deal with it.

I will argue that you are mountainizing a filter replacement mole hill.

Competency was killed by affirmative action, feminism, socialism, and children raised by women.

The guy who pushed Bakke out ended up being murdered due to some of his racketeering activities, and yes he was far too stupid to be a GP.

I have known several competent blacks. They are damaged by the flood of graduates from “historically back” colleges.

Some of the people behind the counter at my local post office are surly and indifferent. People say “Thank you” to one of them and he doesn’t respond. He never says “May I help you.” He just glares at you and waits for you to speak. Very unhappy man now in middle age who I remember walking the beat 20 years ago as a young man. Zero manners. You walk away feeling disrespected when you go into the post office.
