"There is a new sheriff in town," the governor said during a press conference in Ocala. "That's just the way it's going to be."
A bill proposed by Republicans would keep the special taxing district in place, but give it a new name, and create a five-person board whose members would all be appointed by the governor.

Shouldn’t he run policy changes past his donor class first?
“five-person board whose members would all be appointed by the governor.”
...excellent! Time to cough it up you bunch of pervs.
Supposedly, he got them to donate first to his inauguration bash.. Let’s go Brandon… pony up that 10%
Good for DeSantis.
and Trump’s was paid for by Pfizer, Dow and Bank of America. Was he beholden to them?
Trump is from Florida. Put him on the board that babysits the Disney moral degenerates. He’d feel right at home.
Distortion seems to run deep from these that bend a knee to Desantis.
Dumb idea. Create another board?
How about just pull the status and then send them a bill for taxes not paid going back to when the status was put into place?
In WA state, in 2008, we got a call from a state auditor informing us that they had change the way software maintenance contract revenue was being recognized and that we owed $435,000 in back taxes, payable that day. The auditor was identified by their number (#324).
They were calling all of the software companies and doing the same thing. We had to lay off a bunch of people to pay the bill. Happened September 13, one day after the credit market froze, our banks turned our lines of credit into loans, and Lehman went to zero.
No more boards. Just send them a bill.
I'm reminded of when a Dayton mayor tried to annex the local Air Force Base. Since the Air Force provided all the normal services, it would have been a case of the city collecting a 2.5% city income tax from every employee of the base but not doing anything.
Then it shows that DeSantis is not beholden to Disney. Why ya’ll trying to make it a bad thing? Disney was one of Trump’s top 5 donors, where’s your disdain?
Distortion? You’re projecting again...
Are you Catholic?
Trump may be living in Florida now....but he will always be a New Yorker...with the mind of a New Yorker...with the politics of a New Yorker.
Is yours a general complaint, or specific to his allegiance to donors? After all it’s a real big problem for American politics.
DeSantis never has before. Why should he start now?
No.
I hate Disney as much as anybody else, but don’t we always say corporations don’t pay taxes? Isn’t that our argument when the left wants their “windfall profit” tax? Is something different here?
I doubt it
