I have an ESL textbook, published by National Geographic, that mentions Lake Titicaca and Phuket, Thailand in the same lesson. Thankfully, this book is for lower-level students whose English is not good enough catch on to the potential humor.

I have seen a high country lake — Tahoe.
I have not seen the world famous Catatumbo lightning storms over Lake Maracaibo in Venezuela. Incredible dense and fast paced lighting storms over one part of the lake and it happens over a hundred times a year.

Grey Puma. I guess that’s better than Grey Beaver.

The name of Lake Titicaca comes from one of the many indigenous languages of the region. The meaning of Lake Titicaca can be deduced after analyzing the word. In the old Quechua language, the word Titi can be translated as Puma. While Kaká can be translated in Aymara as “Gray” and in Quechua as “Mountain” or “Rock”. So, what does Lake Titicaca mean? It can be translated as “the mountain of the puma”, “gray puma” or “stone puma” among other meanings.

As the guy that likes geographic fun spots I will give you another.

Go to the Wickanninish Inn in Torfino, Vancouver Island, British Columbia during winter storm season and eat at their restaurant and walk their beach. It is in the top ten left on my bucket list. Almost beats out Scotland by car.

Graham Hancock’s Acient Apocolyse had some interesting stuff about Tititaca where the South Shore maximum was 100 feet lower than the north shore maximum, due to a massive seismic event and a temple that once was on the shore was left high and dry.

Maybe it was all BS, but I’d like to check it out sometime.
