Here's a look at the 2023 nominees to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
Cyndi Lauper
Kate Bush
Sheryl Crow
Missy Elliott
Joy Division/New Order
Iron Maiden
George Michael
Willie Nelson
Rage Against The Machine
Soundgarden
The Spinners
A Tribe Called Quest
The White Stripes
Warren Zevon
Warren Zevon—Werewolves of London.
Cyndi Lauper - No; Not enough album sales.
Kate Bush - No; Not enough album sales.
Sheryl Crow - No; Not enough album sales.
Missy Elliott - Really??? They’re kidding right? Rock and Roll?? I don’t think so.
Joy Division/New Order - Really? That’s two bands, not one. A stretch.
Iron Maiden - Hell yes. Meets all of the criteria. Dominant presence in their genre. MASSIVE fan support. Worldwide album sales in the 100MM range.
George Michael - Possibly; Album sales support it.
Willie Nelson - Maybe; Original Outlaw Country (along with with Waylon Jennings and Johnny Cash). Could happen.
Rage Against The Machine - Eh...Political pick. Too soon, anyway.
Soundgarden - Eh...Biggest selling Seattle Grunge act outside of Nirvana. Other than that, one (maybe two) hit songs anyone remembers. Probably won’t make the cut.
The Spinners - Maybe; Throwing a bone to the Boomers.
A Tribe Called Quest - Wha??? Really?
The White Stripes - Too soon.
Warren Zevon - Maybe. Another Boomer pick.
A hometown band. At least the leads went to my wife’s high school.
I remember my mother asking me where I was going and I told her ‘The Jethro Tull’ concert.
She was on the phone to somebody and she told them I was going to see someone named Jeff Grow Tall................
White Stripes rock.
Judas Priest and Pat Benatar were inducted last year.
Preach it! Tull should have been in years ago. I read that they’ll never get in because Ian and Jann webber had a major disagreement long ago.
lol@ cyndi lauper...yeesh...
And don’t forget “Mr. Bad Example”
Cyndi Lauper — too weird
Kate Bush — too weird and not rock and roll.
Sheryl Crow — don’t shake her hand!
Missy Elliott — rap is not rock and roll.
Joy Division/New Order — YES
Iron Maiden — YES
George Michael — dying of AIDS is not rock and roll
Willie Nelson — just because you are a pothead does not mean you are a rocker
Rage Against The Machine — YES
Soundgarden — YES.
The Spinners — love them, but it ain’t rock.
A Tribe Called Quest — intellectual rap doesn’t make rap into rock and roll
The White Stripes — complete poseur which completely disqualifies him.
Warren Zevon — YES
Grassroots. Should have been there by now.
Live for today..................
With the exception of Cyndi Lauper, Willie Nelson and the Spinners, I am unfamiliar with any of these acts.
I was thinking of Elvis Costello. I always got those two confused.
“The Spinners - Maybe; Throwing a bone to the Boomers.”
Catching it. But rock and roll? Not sure they qualify.
Rubber Band Man.
The Outlaws
The Charlie Daniels Band
The Marshall Tucker Band
I'm done with the stupid rock and roll hall of fame.
Willie Nelson? I can see Country hall of fame but rock and roll?
What the heck is a "Tribe Called Quest".
Foreigner needs to be there.
Foreigner - Waiting For A Girl Like You
How many knew that Thomas Dolby played keyboards on this song? Yes, the same Thomas Dolby who did "She Blinded Me With Science.
Good theme if you think a nuke is coming our way. 😁
I always get Abbott and Costello confused...............
