The Moab Valley Fire Department announced a volunteer firefighter has died from an off-duty cardiac event.
They said Mathew Niesen passed away on Tuesday in Moab.
He served with the Moab Valley Fire Department for 18 years as a volunteer firefighter. Throughout his service, he received promotions to the ranks of Lieutenant and Captain.
Mathew was dedicated to the fire service and made a large impact on the community of Moab and his fellow firefighters," crew members with Moab Valley said in a social post. "Along with Mathew’s dedication to his community, he was an extremely dedicated husband to his wife, Amber and father to his four children."
The Grand County Sheriff's Office also released a statement following Niesen's death.
"Not only was Mathew our brother but he was a husband, a father, a son, and a hero," GCSO officials said.
Funeral arrangements were still being figured out as of Wednesday night.
Fundraising for the family has been set up at Zions Bank and Desert Rivers Credit Union. You can also donate at a GoFundMe to help with expenses.

I wonder if Biden will order flags to be flown at half staff for all the excess unknown-cause cardiac events sweeping the nation for some unknown reason, starting in early 2021 or something.

Your are right. Many are carrying $500,000 to 5,000,000 dollar policies and investments are not paying at 10% anymore.
Maybe we should start adding ‘(v)’, ‘(u)’ or ‘(?)’ after a victim’s name to indicate vaccinated status.
