The Memphis police chief tasked with investigating the killing of Tyre Nichols was fired from her previous job over a botched child pornography probe.
Cerelyn 'CJ' Davis was dismissed from the Atlanta Police Department in 2008 for her role in the investigation of sergeant Tonya Crane's husband Terrill Marion Crane.
Two detectives on the case accused Davis of telling them not to dig into the claims made against him after the unit received pictures of him with underage girls.
Crane later pled guilty to one count of producing child pornography after the FBI took on the case.
It comes as protests erupted across the US for a second night after brutal footage of the death of Nichols was released by Memphis police.
Protesters vandalized businesses in Los Angeles while others remained mostly peaceful in New York City, Washington DC, Memphis and other cities.
Crane was indicted by a federal grand jury on the child pornography charges after Atlanta Police Department failed to take action on the case.
In 2009 he pleaded guilty to one count of child pornography, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution.
A follow-up investigation by the city placed the blame squarely on Davis. She was demoted from major to lieutenant before ultimately being fired from the force.
But Davis still became the first black female chief in Memphis one year after George Floyd was killed at the hands of Minneapolis police.
At the time, she was chief in Durham, North Carolina, a post she had held since 2016 and had called for sweeping police reform.
Davis has now once again come under scrutiny following the actions of the five officers involved in the death of Nichols.

Incompetency because she is a black Affirmative Action hire. Incompetency because she is a female Affirmative Action hire.
Affirmative Action is a double curse.
A curse on the people who reasonably expect competency in a Police Chief to manage law and order in their community.
A curse on any actually competent black or female candidate for any job out there, because reasonable people will assume they got that job not because of competency, but because of Affirmative Action.

I don’t think competent black women are getting those positions. They’re screened out as they are likely fair and colorblind. The competent ones might follow the law and that can’t be tolerated.

The 435 Congressional districts are of about equal population and for that reason useful for a comparison.
Is there a pattern to crimes by Police? Is there a pattern to crimes against Police? Is there a pattern to crimes of civilian against civilian? Is there a difference in pattern of violent crime vs burglary and “non-violent crime”?

I would agree with that assertion. Further, only ones who are going to toe an ideological line are being hired, probably with a very few exceptions.
