"An indictment in Shelby County Criminal Court details charges of second-degree murder, aggravated kidnapping, aggravated assault, official misconduct and official oppression against the five former Memphis officers charged in the death of Tyre Nichols.
In addition to laying out the justification for the charges, the grand jury indictment states the officers intentionally did “refrain from performing a duty that was imposed by law that was clearly inherent in the nature of the office or employment."

Did you lose your damn minds?
A lack of impulse control and a mob mentality doesn’t necessarily end when one puts on a uniform.
There is a high degree of psychopathology in many careers involving uniforms and power.
In med school they steer these types to surgery.
Hard to understand how a traffic stop goes this far sideways.
Everyone involved was black so toss out the usual racism agenda.
Perhaps a result of inability to recruit good cops in today’s environment?
We agree on something. Surgery I don’t know about. There will always be some bad cops.
It’s a shame that with 5 of them, 2 or 3 didn’t stop the craziness.
he fought and ran from the police...when you have a major political party encouraging people to do this stuff, this is what happens.
OR, apparently, the two fire dept EMTs.
You would think they could have done something.
Lack of obeying the cops lead to his death and the arrest of all five cops. No orders given to Ashli Babbitt, she was shot at point blank range and her killer cop is a hero. What am I missing here?
You would think.
In a dump like Memphis, I would seriously consider the possibility that he fled from them because he didn’t believe they were real police officers.
“he fought and ran from the police”
So because he didn’t immediately grovel before the magnificence of their authority he deserved to die?
Or is it that the police are so dangerous that they should be obeyed lest they murder you?
Remind me again why police are supposed to be better than armed citizens?
They stopped him for a traffic violation that occurred...the PREVIOUS DAY?! How does that work?
Per the link there were 2 EMT’s present too, although whether they were proximate to the beating I don’t know. (As Nichols did run off, we don’t know how far, yet.)
Much yet to be discovered, but the police and Sheriff’s deputies in my neck of the woods chase down suspects all the time, and unless the suspect is armed, no one dies. Scuffles, yes. Beatings, no.
According to the guy @ the link the actual traffic violation was the previous day?
I had not heard that before.
Sadly, that's the opinion of a certain contingent here. They'll all out themselves on threads about this. Pay attention.
Did nobody learn anything from the Stanford University Prison Experiment?
I need that lady on the movie ‘Airplane’ from 1980, to translate for me.
There was just an incident a few weeks ago that involved people dressed up as Memphis cops robbing people at gunpoint. And that was in a nice area of town.
So yes, if they were plainclothes perhaps Tyree had a reason to run.
Apparently Tyree was just a regular person going about his business. No evidence so far that he had ever been involved in criminal activity.
So just thugs with a government issued badge.
