A 5-year-old girl weighs 98 pounds due to a rare condition that constantly leaves her hungry for more food.

Mom Holly Williams, 25, from the United Kingdom, has resorted to putting a baby gate in the kitchen so that daughter Harlow can’t overeat.

Harlow has Prader-Willi syndrome and is missing chromosome 15, which is responsible for controlling hunger. Therefore, Harlow constantly has an appetite and always wants to eat. Having a baby gate on the kitchen door helps with making sure that Harlow isn’t getting into cupboards in the kitchen,” Williams told Caters.

You are spot on. I used to work with a pediatric endocrinologist. Prader-Willi is a devastating disorder, not just for the child but for the whole family.

The people on these post have no idea what they are talking about. This is a terrible problem that is not going to be helped by going to be Whole Foods.

Exactly.

It's amazing the number of idiots who hate fat people so much that they're going to blame the mother and child for a genetic disease that's beyond their control.

“missing chromosome 15.” Missing a whole chromosome will lead to more problems that just a lack of fullness feelings. Maybe the kid can inhale chromosome 15 with a breathalizer. Yes, I am serious.

OK, you sure convinced me after I looked up the symptoms on Mayo clinic.com. The little girl has every one I can see. I pray for her mother’s strength for the future.

who called the NYP and thought this was a story?
Not everything is print worthy news. Folks need to learn to just deal with life. Not everybody needs to know your business.

That is true. I read that the child will consume anything if denied food.

You probably shouldn’t speak on things you have no idea about.

I’m not sure that would help. Chromosome 15 would first have to get through her cell membranes and then into the cell nuclei, and then the proper gene that controls her hunger would have to turn on.

Stories like this make me count my own blessings plus lets me learn new things about our world and society. And a lot of times it helps the family who is telling the story to be able to talk about it openly and honestly.

“There are appetite suppressants she could be given.”
____________________________________

You are NOT hearing what is being said.

In order for the appetite suppressants to work her brain has to be fooled into thinking she’s full...

In order for that to happen she has to be able to FEEL full and her condition will NOT allow it.

Sigh.

It’s like trying to tell a person what the colour ‘black’ is and you simmply cannot do it. Because the blind person has no way to gage differences of colour. You can try to associate colours with various shapes and temperatures...sure...that said, the blind person will still never be able to tell you what the colour ‘black’ is...

2. A person who clear can read and gets innate enjoyment out of laughing at those much less physically fortunate.

That said, in her five year old mind and heart she’s most likely so much more mature and dare I say it....caring...and even smarter than you are at whatever age you be this evening.

Well then perhaps there are some supplements or drugs that can work to allow her brain to feel full. Somehow being able to work with the brain bypassing using other pathways to accomplish what would normally occur.

You are not reading either.

I am saying there may be something that works to do that, whatever it might be.
