Alabama Airline Worker and Mom of 3 Sucked Into Plane Engine Was Warned to Stay Back: NTSB
Western Journal ^ | January 26, 2023 | Michael Austin

As ground workers began to approach, the flight’s first officer opened a cockpit window and gave the workers a verbal warning, according to the report.

Emergency lights and a “crew alerting system” were also in operation.

Nevertheless, one worker walked in front of an engine, was “pulled off her feet and into the operating engine” and suffered fatal injuries.

The ground crew worker — later identified as Courtney Edwards, 34, according to Fox News — was a mother of three.

Edwards was given multiple warnings that the engines would remain on during the cool-down period in addition to the pilot’s verbal warning and the safety lights.

According to the NTSB review, the MGM ground crew held multiple safety meetings in advance of the plane’s landing.

During these meetings, it was emphasized that the engines would be running, and therefore unsafe, during the engine cool-down period, which was set to last until the plane connected to ground power.

As Edwards approached the plane to set up cones and perform her duties, multiple crew members attempted to wave her off.

The NTSB review noted that The American Eagle Ground Operations Manual clearly warns ground crew operators not to approach an aircraft while the engines are on and the rotating beacon (one of the warning lights ignored or unseen by Edwards) is flashing.

Was warned in training, briefings, direct supervisors, crew, etc...

Feel bad about father/kids, however, she did not listen. Also, if some legal filings occur it would further add to this tragedy. Did Jesus say not to sue your “neighbor”? Simple yes or no.

Posters are just venting about the highly potential lawsuit that might be incoming due to the logical conclusion

I saw the aftermath of a man who fell into a large industrial wood chipper. The only thing left of him was a boot with his foot in it. All kinds of rumors about how he fell in, but in the end, there was a fatality.

Nope, I am for reasonable comments instead of some of the ‘stuff here.

This woman died due to her negligence, and her kids are now without a mother. That some posters use her death to post their mocking comments, and few make it racial is bush league.

Don’t like it - talk to management.

Yes ... a woman lost HER life.

Why?

She did not make safe operations HER PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY.

It’s not the company’s job to make you safe.

It’s YOUR responsibility to work safely.

Safety Third!

Was in a KC-135 hellhole working on a servo motor. The stab trim wheel was locked and tagged out - a Red X in the forms.

A crew chief REMOVED it and started to move the wheel manually. We got out of there damn quick, ripped pants and all.

My co-worker started to scream at the guy, an NCO. That crew chief lost his plane because of that. Think he got other one back in a few months, but he completely disregarded the safety gear in place. Was told he got a Letter of Reprimand.

Workman’s Comp:
If all the safety equipment and procedure was in place, but the employee disregarded protocol, OSHA can investigate and find the company is NOT liable.

There is video of this. Every person working near a plane should be forced to watch it.

One of my former bosses was on the accident investigation team for an Army Helicopter Crash.

Figured out that a bolt had been installed from the wrong side. When the control surfaces were exercised under load, the bolt hung and the helicopter pitched over and crashed, killing 4.

When the investigators finally discovered the cause, and then started questioning all people who would have touched that part, they found an old line worker who had been transferred into that particular job.

He said that bolts don’t go in from the bottom, they go in from the top: EVERYONE knows that. He ignored instructions and installed it the way they were supposed to be.

Killed four people.

SOME. PEOPLE. JUST. WON’T. LISTEN.

I wonder why she chose to ignore the multiple warnings from management and from her co-workers.

"Before anyone cracks wise about this please remember a person lost their life in a very tragic and horrific way."

People can be so cruel online.

All these stories of people dying in some horrible way make me so sad for them and their loved ones.
