San Francisco 49ers rising star Brock Purdy is on the brink of making history.
The quarterback could become the first rookie to lead his team to a Super Bowl appearance. He’s the latest rookie quarterback to guide his team to a conference championship. While Purdy has also won each of the seven games he’s started, he’s receiving praise for another reason – putting faith first.
The former Iowa State standout has been open about his religion.
After being thrust into the 49ers’ matchup against the Miami Dolphins in December, Purdy said he just trusted in God.
"You go out there, you prepare as best you can, you get better every single day at practice, and once you get your opportunity, it’s ‘What are you going to do with it?’ For me, I believe in the Lord, and I trust in Him. I just go out there, and I just play," he said.
Purdy also opened up to Sports Spectrum in 2021 about his faith. He said at Iowa State he asked God to forgive him for putting the sport he loved ahead of his relationship with God.
"It was just a great reminder of where my identity is, where it lies," he said. "And it’s in Jesus. And I continue to lean on Him. Again, the next day I didn’t go out and throw for 500 yards and was this awesome quarterback, but it was just this peace that I had with Him knowing that, ‘Hey, no matter what I’m going to face moving forward during college football, God and Jesus are going to be my identity. And whatever I face, I won’t be shaken from it.’ I’ve got a great foundation in Him."
Now, Purdy is one more win away from an improbable appearance at Super Bowl LVII.

The NFL will put their finger on the scale for this game. They won’t want this guy praising our Lord at the SB.
Super Bowl LVII......one for each state!.................
This guy wins football games. Which is the only really important stat for a QB. Meanwhile, the media and much of the fan base in Chicago are convinced that Justin Fields is the next coming, even though he holds the record for most consecutive Bears losses.
I thought something similar. He's still a relative nobody, so TPTB can still find a way to push him out. If he waited until he had a big contract or went to Super Bowl, he would be more protected
Christianity is not a religion, it is a relationship.
It is not “DO” like all other religions. It is “DONE.”
Ironic that Purdy plays for a team that hails from Satan loving San Francisco.
I like the way you’ve put that. I’ve never heard it put that way before. Thanks.
What city isn’t Satan loving these days?
Nah. Half the guys they interview after the game, every game, but especially the SB, praise God.
Brock Purdy is not ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ (Romans 1:16).
They’re actually in Santa Clara, about 4 burbs removed from San Francisco.
Purdy is a highly effective QB and an outstanding young man with a strong, Christian family unit. His emergence caused me to take interest in the 49ers again. There are other outspoken men of faith on that team as well.
It won’t do the NFL any favors to try and muzzle Purdy’s Christianity. Philly’s QB Jalen Hurts is just as outspoken about his Christian faith, too.
The NFL will put their finger on the scale for this game.
I think so too. However, for a different reason. They have a chance now to ensure no whitey quarterback will play in this game. Remember a couple years ago, “The year of the black quarterback.” There is a concerned effort, at all levels, to get that position finally given (taken) by the minority.
Sorry folks but God is on the Eagles side this time.
“Ironic that Purdy plays for a team that hails from Satan loving San Francisco.”
Well, Philly ain’t exactly Oklahoma City either.
As a Green Bay Packers fan living in HELLINOIS, just gonna tell you straight-up: Chicago Bears fans aren't smart.
They just aren't.
They have first pick in the draft for the first time since 1947. Maybe they’ll trade it for rights to Jameis Winston.
