Need help getting this going because State Farm us doing nothing
State Farm has failed to find me a reasonable place to stay and the money is running out.
I have found a contractor service that will get things going ASAP but it will cost me $5400 with a &1500 down payment.
They will find contractors who can do the job as it needs done with the crap State Farm is proposing.
Basically they will contact a 130 some contractors and narrow it down to 3 or 4 who will battle it out to bid the lowest price and do it fast and efficient.
State Farm wants to bring in their own who will no doubt have a vested interest to charge as much as they can and save SF money to pay out the least possible.
The guy I talked to tonight has the opposite approach.
Fast, cheap and good.
I’m on my 3rd “adjuster” now and I’m told they will throw out everything they can to avoid paying for replacements.
I have a lawyer/public adjuster on the hook for that because he won’t put up with a couple grand offer for a huge payout.
I am about to get screwed and I know it.
Does anyone know this stuff and have advice?
“Like a good neighbor, State Farm is there” Yah. If your neighbor is Charlie Manson, maybe.
They doing the tea and sympathy act to gain my trust and scaring me into desperation to accept the offers at the same time.
Just. No.
I don’t know this stuff, yeah I’m a dumb hillbilly but I learn fast and my gut is screaming that I’m about to be mauled by a company whose bottom line is more important that my life.
Please, if anyone knows anything, help me.
Come Friday, I’m probably going to be freezing in his machine shop because the people who are supposed to find me temporary housing have told me to find my own place and “let them know if I do”.
I’m managing two dogs, my not-all-there hubby and my 86year old mom on top of all this.
I am literally doing everything for everyone and I have no time or energy left to try and take care of myself.
This is above and beyond me and I need someone with experience to help.
Please.
Which state are you in?
Find an insurance advocate. They’re usually folks that used to be insurance adjusters that now fight for the other person.
A good restoration company can provide all the necessary resources. Which state are you in?
Maryland
I’d say call your Attorney General’s office immediately.
I’m not sure State Farm is supposed to find you a place to stay or hire your contractors. They should have an appraiser come out but you should also find an independent appraiser to confirm the cost of repairs. Your loss, you will have to do the work to get it fixed.
In Maryland? Ha. Gigglesnort.
The new AG is nothing but an empty suit. All the last one did was sue Trump and this guy won’t be any better.
“I’d say call your Attorney General’s office immediately.”
She needs help but she has no action to call the AG.
We are going through a similar situation with my mom’s house. Flooding.
Rule of thumb. Document and photograph everything.
All-State dragged their feet with getting a company of their choice to do water mitigation. Then the mold started. I raised hell with them and said I wanted Servpro.
Servpro handled the “pack-out”(and storage), dumpster, water/mold mitigation, and opening up the walls to dry out.
They will also move the items back in once restoration is completed.
I found a guy who is a lawyer/adjuster and savage.
SF is already screwing me with their first day “cleaning “
They tossed hundreds of dollars worth of perfectly fine and undamaged art and craft supplies into bags and then a dumpster while literally “documenting “ 90 cent bottles of hydrogen peroxide and the like.
That was in just one hour before their huge portable light failed and they had to stop.
They are going to empty EVERY bag for me so I can retrieve all the stuff that is literally in new unopened packages.
This is just madness and I do not trust them at all now.
Forgive all the typos please
My fingers are sore and split from digging around in very cold wet stuff trying to save it from the people who are supposed to repair/replace/reimburse me
It seems like they move really fast to bag up and trash everything so I will have no idea or re it’d I’d what’s gone.
Except for that hydrogen peroxide.
Yeah. That precious stuff is safe now.
That’s exactly what they’ve been doing so far but now that the motel is not going to be available after Thursday they’ve gone silent.
They want their own chosen contractor which is Servpro and their reviews are 71% “1 star”.
Get a third party adjuster to represent you. It will take a while but you will get allot more
It’s hard to do that when they’re moving fast to bag up and throw out perfectly good stuff unaffected by either fire or water.
Literally new still in package /still in store bag things.
I am going to get mauled by them.
People told me that from day one but my aunt is adamant that I “ trust State” Farm and not do so.
Seeing the collar that has been passed down to many dogs thrown in a trash bag pretty well made up my mind about that because the first thing I told them before I even unlocked he gate was “If it even remotely looks as if it has ever had anything to do with a dog DO NOT throw it out”.
But they did.
“She needs help but she has no action to call the AG.”
In most states Consumer Protection is part of the AG’s office. It seems they could help, or at least offer good suggestions.
After a couple weeks of that, I hired a public adjustor and life got a lot better. State Farm hated him, but together we got a settlement for the policy limits and then some more on top of that. (They wanted to do mold prevention immediately and I wanted to do complete demolition. I said that would save money overall and they agreed that if we ended up with demolition they would pay the extra. We did demolition in the end.)
In our area of Texas we had a severe hailstorm recently. My insurance company (Germania) was excellent, prompt and fair. I have heard many complaints from those insured with State Farm.
Once this is over, change insurance companies.
Funny story about an insurance adjuster, 45 years ago. I was in a car wreck and not at fault. I also lost a week of work because of the collision. The adjuster came by the house and was good about the repairs. I said I want my week of lost wages, and he said they could not do this. My mom turned to the adjuster and said, “this conversation is surely paining my boys neck.” He immediately decided to pay the lost wages.
Sorry you are going through that. It is beyond stressful and emotional. It has been for us.
