A Kansas hunter was accidentally shot dead by a dog that stepped on a rifle in the back of the pickup they were in, according to officials.

The victim — who has not been identified — was in the front passenger seat of the truck in Geuda Springs late Saturday with a dog in the back with the hunting gear, including a rifle.

“The fired round struck the passenger who died of his injuries on scene.”

It was not immediately clear if the dead man was the owner of the pickup or if someone else was with them in the driver’s seat at the time. It was also unclear if the truck was moving or parked when the hunter was shot in the back.

Road hunters? No big deal to chamber a round when you stop, though.

Looks like the 22nd was the last day of an extended antlerless deer hunt in Kansas.

Happy grinding! They’re pretty stingy with the deer tags in Oregon.

I can’t tell you how many deer we saw at dusk in the fields adjacent to the trees. There were multiple herds of them at various locations while we were there.

Just like many parts of the country, there are too many does. Everybody wants to shoot a buck.

Personally, I have hit 5 deer over the 33 years I have lived in Kansas. So I am thankful we are able to able to hunt. The tags are $20/per doe.

Did they check the dogs paws for gunshot residue?

Oregon requires putting in for a controlled antlerless tag($8). If you draw one, the tag is $28.50.

Nothing like playing the game legally, letting does walk by, and seeing them wrapped around a guardrail a week after the season ends.

Don’t you think a cat would be smart enough to frame the dog?
