A Kansas hunter was accidentally shot dead by a dog that stepped on a rifle in the back of the pickup they were in, according to officials.
The victim — who has not been identified — was in the front passenger seat of the truck in Geuda Springs late Saturday with a dog in the back with the hunting gear, including a rifle.
“The fired round struck the passenger who died of his injuries on scene.”
It was not immediately clear if the dead man was the owner of the pickup or if someone else was with them in the driver’s seat at the time. It was also unclear if the truck was moving or parked when the hunter was shot in the back.

This happens more than you would think. Over the years, I’ve read dozens of stories where a dog caused a firearm to discharge and either killing or injuring the owner. The mistake was having a round chambered, and the safety “off”, when the firearm was unsecured.
Some safeties could conceivably be moved if a dog was walking on the gun.
The whole story sounds suspicious to say the least.
Who puts an unsecured, loaded rifle in the back seat of a truck?
redefines doggy style...
OK, that was a good one.
I think I have read something like this before but it was about 20 years ago.
My point was that the whole story sounds very suspicious to say the least.
An act of dog.
My Father taught me to unload gun when the hunt is over.
Check it again when you get back to truck.
Check it again when you put it in the case.
Who is "them"? The dead man? The dead man and the dog?
It would be a problem if the truck were moving with nobody in the driver's seat.
Maybe the dog is not the culprit here at all.

It’s a good idea to unload your rifles and shotguns when not in use.
RIP and condolences to the family, BTW.

I don’t know about the affair but I do understand the hunter’s wife has received four offers from other women to buy the dog.
I grew up in Kansas many, many moons ago. When I was a kid, nearly every pickup you saw out in the countryside had a rifle or two mounted in the rear window and you never heard of such accidents. But I vaguely recall them outlawing such racks. Is that true? If so, they should bring them back. They save lives, no matter what the infinitely stupid liberals say.
Gan Safety 101: Do not put a rifle with a chambered round along with your dog in the back of a pick-up truck.
Sounds fishy. Maybe, just maybe, the trigger was pulled by a human who is trying to put the blame on an innocent dog.
Username checks out…. I can see why you’re being so defensive. 😂😂
Who the hell leaves a loaded and cocked rifle laying around in the back of a pickup?
