Do Vice Presidents Have Authority To Declassify?

I’ve looked here on FR but not a deep dive into if VP can declassify documents or not. Mainstream media puts out a fact check to say they have ability to . I’ve put in the source URL an article from 2010 about Obama’s executive order. I do not have the patience to interpret this. Does this EO give VP’s declassify protection or not?

Bush43 started it with an EO giving Cheney the ability to classify and declassify material.

Obama renewed that EO.

But this ability only allows the VP to declassify what the VP has classified. The VP cannot declassify something that the POTUS has classified.

That’s what they’re not telling us...about the Trump documents and also the Biden documents. Were they/are they still classified and if not...when were they declassified.

"The documents were vetted so that makes it OK. 😂😂😂"

The documents were on the visitor's list to Joe's Delaware home.

That post is completely nuts.

Why would you even join a political forum if you think this is something we should ignore and not even be interested in?

If the Vice President was explicitly granted origination authority by the President to classify/declassify materials, the VP can exercise this based on his knowledge of the sources and methods of collection that must be protected.

This is extremely rare as most classifications are handled by the IC agencies that have been given original classification authority and, therefore, are the only ones who can subsequently declassify the documents. Since all authority originates with, and is vested in the Executive, the President can classify or declassify any material under his authority.

Having the “authority” is one thing, “getting away with it” is another.

Pres. Bush E.O. 13292 was revoked by Pres. Obama E.O. 13526.
I didn’t look for the differences.

Looks like 13526 still says VP can classify. Looks like Declassify can be done by VP(and his successor) if it no longer meets “standards”:

Sec. 3.1.

Authority for Declassification. (a) Information shall be declassified as soon as it no longer meets the standards for classification under this order.

(b) Information shall be declassified or downgraded by:

(1) the official who authorized the original classification, if that official is still serving in the same position and has original classification authority;

(2) the originator’s current successor in function, if that individual has original classification authority;

(3) a supervisory official of either the originator or his or her successor in function, if the supervisory official has original classification authority; or

(4) officials delegated declassification authority in writing by the agency head or the senior agency official of the originating agency.

There are 14 additonal Presidential documents that refer to E.O. 13526. I didn’t check to see if VP can no longer declass.

“ Why would you even join a political forum if you think this is something we should ignore and not even be interested in?”

I said Biden is committing treason at the southern border. THATs what we should be interested in. The media and the Dems are trying to distract from that monumental story, a crime that is life or death for America. Holding a box of classified docs in the garage is peanuts , especially when the government classified menus and laundry tickets and everything else under the Sun.

How about them finding out Biden has possession of classified document when he was a Senator.

As they say in German, es Machts nichts . It doesn’t matter, and it’s merely a tangent to the unlawful possession of classified documents for at least five years.

Getting the border policy we want means winning elections.

This thread is about a major event that could decide the 2024 presidential election and how much effectiveness Biden will have over the next two years, and it will have an effect on the attacks on Trump, tie up the democrats, change the media narratives, push aside some of the democrat agenda and attack goals, and so much more.

We care about this national security scandal by the democrat president and we don’t care about your personal opinion that you want it to disappear and be ignored.

I think we’re seeing another round of Cloward-Piven here. This story is now taking up more oxygen than the Southern Border. It’s hiding the machinations behind sending more arms to Ukraine.

On behalf of those who ever lost a CEOI in the forests of Germany, this is a big effin deal.

Fear of the Warsaw Pact forces was a distant second to losing a CEOI during field exercises.
