new research shows Recent research makes it clear that any amount of drinking can be detrimental. Here’s why you may want to cut down on your consumption beyond dry January.
Sorry to be a buzz-kill, but that nightly glass or two of wine is not improving your health. After decades of confusing and sometimes contradictory research (too much alcohol is bad for you but a little bit is good; some types of alcohol are better for you than others; just kidding, it’s all bad), the picture is becoming clearer: Even small amounts of alcohol can have health consequences.
Research published in November revealed that between 2015 and 2019, excessive alcohol use resulted in roughly 140,000 deaths per year in the United States. About 40 per cent of those deaths had acute causes, like car crashes, poisonings and homicides. But the majority were caused by chronic conditions attributed to alcohol, such as liver disease, cancer and heart disease.
When experts talk about the dire health consequences linked to excessive alcohol use, people often assume that it’s directed at individuals who have an alcohol use disorder. But the health risks from drinking can come from moderate consumption as well.

I like how you think. I’ll be keeping an eye on you…
I guess pizza is under bread?
I picked the wrong day to stop sniffing glue?
RE: teetotaler....
Me, too.
I did it to avoid being like my late mother, a loudmouthed abusive alcoholic. A self-centered feminist.
Side effect of being sober is nearly everyone at parties and gatherings looks inferior. Bragging, clumsy, saying embarrassing things. And how genuine are their romantic feelings?
This was true thru history.
Hence the Egyptian thing mentioned above, etc.
Cooked and controlled fermented drink was better. They just didn’t realize all you had to do was cook the water.
Ancient beere had no hops. It must have been a bit flat.
Yes. Sniffing glue and drinking go hand in hand. The lesson is : You have to pick the right day.
I sure do miss good cocaine. The sh*t today, you're rolling the dice that it isn't laced with fentanyl.
I remember my younger days. Guys ask, "What's your best pickup line?"
"I've got cocaine."
Worked so unbelievably well.
My grandmother had a couple of heart attacks in her 80s, and then the big one when she was shoveling snow about 6 weeks before her 100th birthday. She never smoked, but liked a good belt of Scotch in the evening.
As far as longevity goes, I figure that whatever you’re doing when you reach 80 must be working, so keep it up.
I'll bet she wasn't obese. Obesity will kill you when the others won't.
That’s why I only drink when I’m alone or with somebody else.
Frankly I don’t get the obsession with alcohol.
It tastes bad, and makes you stupid and clumsy fast. Never mind the barfing. And never mind the liver risk long-term.
Sorry, not at all for me.
My parents were never big on alcohol so neither am I. In fact they at least drank stuff at parties (mature parties, not drunken teenage-bopper hedonistic feats) while I never do.
My husband only drinks a beer to be sociable with people. He really doesn’t like it.
LOL.
Lee Marvin won an Oscar for that Cat Ballou role.
Was so great in M Squad and others. There’s one episode where he goes undercover to be a nerd taking dance lessons. An innocent bumpkin who never kissed a girl role so he could get taken for his money.
My thoughts go back to my great-grandfather who drowned himself in Ireland in a vat of beer. Legend has it he got out three times to go to the bathroom.
LOL, that is a good pickup line.
Hops is a preservative. Unless they had a substitute, they drank it green.

Research also shows that mRna vaccines are ‘Safe and Effective’
I tend to believe Alcohol is effective, and mostly safe
Alcohol is a dangerous addiction.
They had trouble getting the horse to assume that position because it’s so unnatural. Even though it’s a trained horse. I forgot how they finally got the shot.
