When five Tampa Bay Rays players refused to wear a game uniform with a rainbow logo during Pride month, it seemed like a childish move.
Now it’s clear they started a misguided trend that is not-so-quietly building amongst anti-gay athletes in sports around the world.
The refusal to wear a rainbow-colored uniform — and potentially miss games for the club that pays you to play — misses the entire point of the very simple act, instead infusing a clear message of inequality and rejection of an entire class of people......
I’ve had some people ask me if I’d wear a cross to welcome Christians to a ballpark, if the team that employed me was having a Christian Night (and yes, by the way, many clubs host these).
Again, simple: 100%.
I’m not Christian. I was a couple decades ago, but I’ve since left my religious beliefs in the rear-view mirror, in part because of how people like Daniels and these other anti-gay athletes have used the religion I loved to beat me over the head with the Bible.
Every athlete should be able to wear a cross during Christian night, camo during military-appreciate night, and yes, a rainbow uniform during Pride night.
With no doubt, if an athlete refused to wear a Christian symbol for Christian night, or refused to wear camo for military-appreciation night, they would be attacked as anti-Christian and anti-military.

Here's a different point of view:
'When the Tampa Bay Rays organization mandated that players wear a game uniform with a rainbow logo celebrating certain sexual activities during Pride month, it seemed like a childish and unproductive stunt, completely unrelated to professional sports, far more likely to damage than to benefit the multi-million-dollar business.'

“I’m not Christian. I was a couple decades ago, but I’ve since left my religious beliefs in the rear-view mirror”
If he isn’t now, he never was. Maybe he thinks he was, but he wasn’t.
No Christian would demand that non-Christians wear a cross during the “never gonna happen” Christian Appreciation Night.
I've definitely seen that happen. I did, however, know a lesbian couple for many years, who took excellent care of the one's aging mother, and who actually voted Republican (they were Cuban), so I think there are some who are quite normal.
But this trans movement really disturbs me. I think they are destroying young people.
He’s not a Christian, but would have no problem wearing that symbology - hiding with them, not unlike the camo cited in the additional comparison.
Clearly, he has no issue with the inherent deceit implicit in that position.
And what the author is asking is that others share in this abuse of truth, and simply conform for appearances, no matter what their personal beliefs or reasons.
What a small, craven creature this person is - and fully earning of disrespect and scorn for trying to shame others for having principles and self-respect.
“I can deal with the LGB crowd, but once the T’s show up, no, I’m sorry, they are mentally ill.”
The act of putting on articles of clothing is mentally ill, but you’re OK with sodomy?
The “L” & “G” were the”nose of the camel”.
Once they were “under the edge of the tent” the rest of the alphabet followed.
“QWERTY” will be next.
“Every athlete should be able to”.....
Yes, I agree, they should be able to BUT not be forced to. And if they do not want to go along with the promotion, that does not make them ANTI promotion. They are paid to play, let them do that. If the organization wants to promote a cause, they can promote a cause, but not FORCE people to do so weather they agree with the cause or not.
He said “clubs” which I would guess these clubs would be in places like TCU, SMU, Baylor, etc.
I would like to see him specify anytime a pro team or public university has sponsored a “Christian” night with the wearing of crosses on the uniform. Would not be surprised if there had been a muzzie night.
Shut the F^^K up you idiot!!
Seems like Cyd missed the point a couple decades ago……..
…..he needs prayer.
No...they are ALL ‘mentally ill’.
Cyd is probably ‘cool with that’.

Should be able to. Not should be required to.
And I don't see these athletes beating somebody over the head with the Bible. No athlete is demanding anyone's support or confirmation.
That’s the point that is missed!
"Be and let be' is why those little boys in Georgia were raped by their adoptive fathers.
Sorry, but any dude who finds another man’s butt sexy, is mentally ill.
