The cost of living is squeezing UK households but some have not felt the sting as luxury car marker Rolls-Royce has reported a record year for sales.
Rolls-Royce Motor Cars reported a record 6,021 sales in 2022, an 8% increase on 2021’s record of 5,586, and the first time in its 118-year history that annual sales have exceeded 6,000.
Records were set in several key markets, including the UK and Germany.
The value of bespoke commissions — from customers seeking to customise their new car — also reached record levels in 2022.
Torsten Müller-Ötvös, CEO of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, revealed clients are making ever more imaginative and technically demanding requests.
“The unrivalled bespoke creativity and quality achieved by our team here in Goodwood means that on average, our clients are now happy to pay around half a million euros (£440,000) for their unique motor car,” he said.
A “single-digit” drop in sales was recorded in Greater China — which includes mainland China and areas such as Hong Kong — due to “ongoing headwinds” but this was “successfully counterbalanced by increased sales in other markets”, according to the car maker.

Less than two minutes. Impressive!
Thank you for suggesting that possible connection between Rolls-Royce record-breaking sales and Pelosi's unconstitutional, unaccountable COVID and omnibus spending.
"Congress is not empowered to tax for those purposes which are within the exclusive province of the States." —Justice John Marshall, Gibbons v. Ogden, 1824.
“If the tax be not proposed for the common defence, or general welfare, but for other objects, wholly extraneous, (as for instance, for propagating Mahometanism among the Turks, or giving aids and subsidies to a foreign nation, to build palaces for its kings, or erect monuments to its heroes,) it would be wholly indefensible upon constitutional principles [emphases added].” — Justice Joseph Story, Commentaries on the Constitution 2 (1833).
Pelosi: "We have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it." (non-FR; 6 sec.)
“Cherish, therefore, the spirit of our people, and keep alive their attention. If once they become inattentive to the public affairs, you and I, and Congress and Assemblies, judges and governors, shall all become wolves [emphasis added]. It seems to be the law of our general nature.” - Thomas Jefferson (Letter to Edward Carrington January 16, 1787)
The MAGA-controlled House desperately needs to introduce a resolution for Congress to propose an amendment to the Constitution to the states that is limited strictly to repealing the 16th (direct taxes) and 17th Amendments (popular voting for federal senators) (16&17A), little or ideally no discussion required for such an amendment imo.
Repealing 16&17A would effectively "secede" ALL the states from the unconstitutionally big federal government imo.
Although such a resolution is doomed with gridlocked Congress (where are the states?), what patriots initially get out of a repeal 16&17A resolution is seeing more masks fall off remaining RINO lawmakers who vote against resolution that patriots can primary in 2024.
OK, rich people can still afford a Rolls Royce in these economic times. But can they afford a dozen eggs?
“Oh good. I ordered 3.”
Maybe not good. With high demand you paid top dollar. On the other hand did you get a quantity discount?
I could convert that into a pickup truck. I have the appropriate cutting devices.
I got a case of free Grey Poupon!!
😜😜😜
RR Automotive is owned by BMW. RR Marine Systems, power systems, turbomeca, etc, etc, etc, are all separate and not owned by BMW.
The people buying these cars are seriously insulated from this. They’ve got money to burn, literally.
Whatever, I’m not jealous. Stating the obvious.
Good discussion point for FReepers:
For all the people here who bought a Rolls Royce recently, did the price of gas (or EV electric charges) cause you to think twice?
People that buy Rolls aren’t affected by economic situations.
Plus they make darn good turbine engines that are always in demand.
