Underwear giant Victoria's Secret has been shaken by controversy because of its politically correct campaigns with obese feminists. Now the Swedish business has gone bankrupt, reports Ecommerce.
The company Amarla Retail AB, which runs the Swedish company, has been hit with significant loss figures lately according to Ehandel.
The stores in the Mall of Scandinavia, the Galleria in Stockholm and Femman in Gothenburg will be open for a while. Bankruptcy manager Lars Lundberg says the plan is to "try to keep the stores open and maintain sales as before, but now under the hat of the bankruptcy estate".

A marketing image disaster - Victoria’s Secret - “it’s where the fat ladies shop”
I bet they don’t use Secret deodorant because it’s made for a woman.
Will they be having a going out of business sale on the models? (But not those pigs above in the first few comments.)
Go woke?
Go broke!
VS merged with Lane Bryant?
“Always cater to your base. Basic marketing.”
Exactly. I have 18 years of Retail Management behind me, post-Army. I never did finish my business degree (I still kind of want to!) but for some reason, two companies trusted me to manage their multi-million dollar enterprises for them; The Seed Savers Exchange and Jung Garden Centers.
“Hi! Were both seed companies, but we’re no longer going to buy seed from our usual suppliers. All of our seeds MUST come from growers that are one-eyed, one handed and identify as gay Eskimos.” *Rolleyes*
Don Draper would never have approved pitching that campaign.
This article jogged my memory, a few years back, three "feminist" activists banded together and started organizing petition drives to get Victoria's Secret to change their longtime slogan: "The Perfect Body."
Caving in to the pressure, the company did indeed change their slogan to the very lame and boring "A Body For Every Body" and that started the downfall of the brand.
But even THAT was not enough for the three creators of the petition drive, the three women - Gabriella Kountourides, Laura Ferris and Frances Black - issued this joint statement at the time saying the change of the slogan wasn't enough.
"We are overjoyed that Victoria's Secret have listened to the public and changed the wording to 'A Body for Every Body', as we feel that this sends out a more inclusive, healthy message. However, we are still waiting for Victoria's Secret to apologise and pledge that they will not use such harmful marketing in the future, as we do not feel it is enough for them to just change the wording. We would also like them to change all advertising in their stores that still bears the text 'The Perfect 'Body''. As such, we will continue promoting the petition and the campaign."
See what happens when you start to cave in to a few loudmouths? Once you go down that road and start apologizing, your tormentors will be empowered and now they will never go away until you are literally driven out of business and destroyed.
Here's a news article about it from 2014
They should have stuck with the original slogan.
I was out running errands this morning and walked past an Old Navy store. I noticed a fat mannequin in the display window. It was my first time seeing one of those.
Well “Heroin Chic” wasn’t that great, neither.
Don’t get your panties in a bunch: To become overly upset or emotional over something, especially that which is trivial or unimportant.
What woman would buy those items for herself thinking that is the look she wants to mimic? What husband would buy one of those items thinking it would look good on his wife and he would like to see her look like those models?
Who ever made the decision to take the company in this direction should be fired, at least twice!
I can see again!
Well that worked out swell! Not.
“Okay, you have Swedish women, and sexy lingerie, and you can’t make a go of it...?”
HAHA, not sure I ever knew they were a Swedish Company!
But as I said to a friend on a COMPLETELY different topic, just today: The sheer stupidity is just astonishing.
Queue up the Chris Rock circus music from Madagascar.
That pic is the reason VS went bankrupt.
Thx. Instant relief indeed.
