What is the US “Gas Stove Ban” REALLY about? What sounds like overeach in itself, is actually a cover for something potentially far, far worse.

“If the American people allow the gov’t to regulate indoor air quality, we’ll have already collapsed as a nation.”

Um, they’ve already done that! Smoking Bans everywhere! Some people in apartment complexes can’t even smoke in the spaces where they pay expensive rent!

A LOT of us FReepers were here for the smoking bans and the insurance companies putting the screws to overweight people.

I seem to remember something about Scott fertilizer and some lawsuit against them for discrimination when it came to personal rights, too.

We have been on this slippery slope already. No one listened to those of us that warned people back then, and no one is listening now.

Plan accordingly for you and yours. Mother Government is a beotch and is on a roll! Grrrr!

And I don’t even smoke! Never have!

All fine arguments for / against electric or gas stoves. But so what? What happened to choice? We must not live in a free country anymore.

One of my lib nephews asked me why I don’t support use of the metric system. I’m sure it’s fine, I tell him, but my imperial system ain’t broke, so leave it alone. He can’t comprehend that I shouldn’t have to accept that which he sees as superior.

I had an induction cooktop (aka glass top) and hated it. You can’t use cast iron cookware on it.

Wow! You must have happened to get a really bum one.

We often use cast iron on ours. It works really well with cast iron.

I don't know of anything you could have done wrong to not have been able to use cast iron.

We have had none of the problems you described in many years of heavy use of ours.

What brand?

Ours is a Kenmore Elite.

why I don’t support use of the metric system.

Neither system is "superior".

I have measuring tools for both and use whichever I think is easier for the particular job, sometimes both on a job.

Exactly, sometimes to measure a quarter, an eighth, or a sixteenth is far more efficient than to measure 0.25, 0.125 or 0.0625.

Modernists just suppose the new is inherently superior.

Nope, no hovels, but some pretty low-class digs at times.

Samsung. It wouldn’t work well with any black bottom pots such as Magnalite. The runaway heating was a different problem that would show up as the dials were going bad. No matter the setting it would randomly go to max heating. It didn’t matter what kind of pan I used. I like to make my own stock by simmering ckn., turkey carcass overnight but I couldn’t risk leaving the burners on even to go check the mail. Now I have a Samsung gas (propane) and love it.

If it actually is better, it will happen without government interference.

But it’s not actually better. I cook and I would never replace my stove top with induction.
Induction has it’s uses, but it doesn’t work as well as a stove top for cooking. When you need to adjust the heat quickly, you can cut or increase the flames on a gas top, but with induction the temperature has to drop or increase gradually.
