Last Father’s Day, I spent the morning watching the men of Millheim Harmonie Verein Hall baste and flip barbecue on large open pits. There were beef clods, pork shoulders, and whole mutton. That last one is something you don’t often see on barbecue joint menus in Texas, whole or not, but back in the days before barbecue restaurants it was nearly as ubiquitous on the pit as beef and pork
I grew up the same way. Costco has decent lamb and the prices are OK. Just had a boneless leg for New Years.
I guess I was in 5th grade and read about the difference at the Library(what's that now) and I asked her and she gave the quote about the difference between lamb and mutton, basically mutton is sh!t.
We got a bbq’d leg of lamb via amazon delivery for Christmas. Wow, it looked fancy....I looked the company up and the price was $140.00. You cooked it in an extremely low oven for a few hours, in it’s plastic bag. I don’t eat red meat, but I was excited for my husband. Don’t want to mention the name of the company because maybe we just did something wrong. The skin was sooooo tough, a lot of gristle and fat and it came with a bottle of BBQ sauce that was kind of good, but did not really work with the lamb. Very odd.... I ended up slicing about 2 lbs off the giant bone and freezing. $140!!!!! Dog and cat love it, but get tired of chewing the tough parts!
I love Alton. So science-y....
Never BBQ’d lamb. But, frequently make a roasted rack of lamb. Has become a favorite Sunday evening dinner.
I was once eating BBQ in Little Rock at what was supposed to be Bill Clinton’s favorite restaurant. They had an old menu on the wall that included BBQ goat. An older waitress told me it was very good goat.
We raise lambs. Enough to have lamb every couple of weeks. It is good, but takes more prep than beef to get it tasting good. Best is smoked Lego Lamb.
Bkmk lamb
I’d think Lego Lamb would be a bit too crunchy for me.

Thanks for the info, blackdog!
Do you do other meats in yours?
Ronco Showtime makes great pork roast. Crispy outside, juicy inside. Love mine.
My wife bought a Costco Beef Tenderloin for Christmas last year and it was absolutely delicious. She paid $140 for a 7 pound roast. We split it in two and had it on two different days. The meat was absolute perfection.
I think we’ll skip the BBQ leg of lamb.
Mutton is full grown sheep. Lamb is a tender yummy young sheep.
Someone had to do it/
I came across leg of lamb at a store last week at 70% off so I bought one. I plan to smoke it.
