What McCarthy has offered his GOP opponents, and what’s under discussion

What McCarthy has offered

Motion to vacate: McCarthy has offered to lower the threshold to bring up a move to force a vote on ousting the House Speaker down to just one member, a change from a threshold of five members that was revealed in a House rules package over New Year’s weekend.

That was also lowered from a threshold of half of the House GOP conference that was agreed to in November.

Floor vote to establish term limits for all House lawmakers: Rep. Ralph Norman (R-S.C.), who has introduced a term limits bill, said McCarthy made that commitment.

Floor vote on a border security bill: In a House GOP conference call on Friday, Rep. Garret Graves (R-La.) said there will be movement on legislation encompassing a border security plan crafted by Texas Republicans, according to a source.

Commitment to move bills through regular order: McCarthy has pledged to bring up 12 regular appropriations bills individually and also made commitments on an open amendment process.

Create subcommittee on “Weaponization of the Federal Government”: Housed under the House Judiciary Committee, the panel is a response to a request from GOP members who have withheld support for McCarthy to form a “Church-style” committee to investigate alleged government abuses, in reference to a 1975 Senate select committee named for former Sen. Frank Church (D-Idaho) that investigated intelligence agencies. "

Worth several months of drama. Thanks to Gaetz and his rebels, we appear to have gotten this, and several other things, in just a few days.

Has the DOJ announced an investigation into these shady back room deals yet?

I’m not sure why, but my soul has a very strong aversion to McCarthy. This happens with very few people and is not based upon any logical factual information or thinking.

When I look at the guy I get a punch in the gut feeling. Whenever I get this feeling, it is always a warning that a person is not as they appear. It is never wrong. It has saved my ass throughout my life many times.

I really hope and pray that I’m wrong on this.

If true, it is one more indication that really tough times are ahead.

You’re not wrong. I can still see pictures of that scum backslapping with the former Speaker Paul Ryan. That’s all that need be said about that slug McCarthy.

McCarthy suffers from California COPD and will never get anything done for the GOP.

Count me in. Maybe we need a McCarthy ping list just to see how the promises pan out in reality.

Sounds so good, but those that know McCarthy know how he operates.

McCarthy can bring these items “up”, but know in advance they will go nowhere.

I too get that feeling. I feel that he is going to be far worse than Ryan because he has an axe to grind.

Vote has revealed how huge the RINO faction is in the House.

“my soul has a very strong aversion to McCarthy”

I had the same feeling the first time I saw Joe Biden blathering on the Senate floor. Instinctively I had a deep loathing for him, and it has only intensified over the years as I’ve learned more about him.

McCarthy gives me the heebee jeebees.

Sorry Surrender Monkey Caucus but you lose again.

All your whining and fake “yeah buts” can’t get around this motion to vacate can be brought by a single member.

This effectively muzzles anything that McCarthy can do to help Schumer and Biden.

So, YOU LOSE SURRENDER MONKEYS.

His first order of business is elimination of the funding for the 87K irs agents, and at some point investigate the border problems

So while the onus of having an army of IRS agents looking into our finances may go away, the army of illegals will continue to pour across the border, destroying communities across the US.

Anyone who desires that position so badly, to put the country thru this comedy, cares about nothing and no one but himself

This is the country club Republicans way of doing business. It is a seniority thing. I always refer back to Bob Dole running for President in 96. He had no business being the nominee, but his “seniority” within the country club Republican circles meant it was his time.

To quote Reagan, “There are some people who would have you stand on principle that if you don’t get all that you’ve asked for from the legislature, you jump off the cliff with the flag flying. I have always figured that half a loaf is better than none and I know that in the democratic process, you’re not always going to get what you want.”

I don’t want McCarthy, but then again, if the Freedom Caucus is getting everything they want except a different speaker, maybe they accept it and just keep better tabs on the process.

Other than motion to vacate, everything else is useless. I can’t believe Gaetz has been in Congress so long that he thinks voters and donors are motivated by intent, “we are going to have a vote on X” garbage. No one cares about votes or reforms, just simply action. Freepers say here all the time about everything, call me when someone goes to jail or whatever.
The “leadership was unable to convince the republican “leadership” in the senate to hold the spending bill until January, if you can’t persuade the senate counterpart in your own party to work with you, how are you qualified to lead anything
The satirical quote from Biden in the other posts 100% dead on. They have nothing to do until November. They let McConnell neuter their entire conference for one year. The only year anything gets done. 2024 is an election year and they will CR everything in this omnibus so they can get home to campaign.i guess the threat of the chair vacate is all they need. Call me a surrender monkey for not being excited about the optics, but this is simply the facts.

Democrats are waiting until McCarthy is in the job for a week or so before bringing up charges of his infidelity.

Doesn’t matter what happens, its just rubbing his nose in it that matters to them.

They’ve been rubbing their collective hands together with glee, waiting for that day.

This was always a negotiation ... and despite the literal panic of many of GOP members and surprisingly far too many of those in the conservative media it was clearly worth a few days at the beginning of this Congress to work things out.

Now the "fun" begins ... and we'll learn soon whether or not McCarthy (RINO-CA) is a man of his word.
