Social media users have been left bewildered after discovering that 550 divided by two is 275 - and not 225 as many seem to instinctively assume.

Meh. They’ll have cash registers to figure all of that out. Don’t the cash registers at McDs have pictures of what you buy? Just have a digital display of what the customer’s change should be. Or, better yet, digital currency. We should all pretend to be stupid, so as not to offend the stupid.
If one of the dividers is a RINO then 10 for him and 540 for the socialists to be added to the national debt
Even my 8 year old grandson can immediately give the correct answer. I would think everyone knows that half of 500 is 250. Then add in half of 50 (25) to 250, which makes the total 275.
Maybe I’m wrong that everyone knows that half of 500 is 250 and half of 50 is 25, and that is my first mistake.
They cannot read analog clocks, either.
Biden at one time said ALL classroom clocks needed to be changed to DIGITAL.
MORE LANDFILL-—MORE expense-—MORE STUPID
I don’t know but I want to make their change at a register!
I was wrong it was the actor Terrence Howard: https://freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/4049421/posts

“”If one times one equals one that means that two is of no value because one times itself has no effect. One times one equals two because the square root of four is two, so what’s the square root of two? Should be one, but we’re told it’s two, and that cannot be.””
“as many seem to instinctively assume”
If you do math by instinct, unless you are the type of guy who went to college at 13 or has a Nobel prize on his shelf, you are probably doing it wrong.
The Dems have been remarkably successful in systematically dumbing down the population. Having useful skills, abilities and purpose has been cast as somehow being selfish and an enemy of the collective.
Un-doing this destructive mindset is nearly impossible now.
Maff b racist.
I can read an analog watch from across the room. A digital watch you need to be up close and personal.
***This is what happens when children are allowed to use pocket calculators in arithmetic class.***
I knew a man, in the 1980s, who could do math in his mind so fast it overwhelmed everyone in the plant.
Then the company bought pocket calculators for everyone.
Within two years he could no longer do math in his mind as fast as he used to and had to rely on his calculator.
> How does someone not immediately know the answer to 550 divided by 2? <
I’ll field that one. It’s not because those people are stupid. It’s because the people running the schools are stupid.
Back in the old days students had to memorize basic arithmetic facts: 6x7 = 42, etc. Those days are pretty much gone.
In the school district where I taught it was forbidden to teach such facts. Math had to be done by calculator only. An elementary teacher I know passed out the times table to her students (she did that on her own). When the principal found out, the teacher was ordered to collect those times tables immediately. And don’t do it again.
LOL. But seriously close to the actual truth.
Don't feel bad.... I have to get naked to count to 11.... /s
500 / 2 = 250.
So how can 550 (which is bigger), divided by 2, be a smaller result?
WTF is this? Man, we are in trouble.
More likely, they short-change the inattentive. “Hey, mom! I made employee of the month, again! My till is always over.”
“This is what happens when children are allowed to use pocket calculators in arithmetic class.”
Bingo. They might actually be helpful in high school when you get to trigonometry or something, but in grammar school they need to be banned, including phones with calculator apps.
