America's Persecuted Political Prisoners

Almost two years after the January 6, 2021, Washington D.C. protests that Democrats and the mainstream news media call an “insurrection,” the Department of Justice (DOJ) is still asking for the public’s help in identifying more people to arrest.

Of the 964 individuals charged with crimes for their participation in the protests of January 6, 2021, “hundreds” are still in Washington D.C. prisons today.

The conditions in these prisons are so horrific that 34 January 6th (J6) prisoners asked for a transfer to the military terrorist prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba (Gitmo). In their letter pleading for a transfer, the J6 prisoners said that Gitmo would provide what they are lacking in their D.C. prison, namely “nutritional meals, sunlight exposure, top notch medical care,” and respect for “religious requirements.”

**SNIP**

While hesitant to act regarding left-wing protesters, Garland is not restrained on the issue of J6 protesters. It is clearly the top priority for the DOJ. For example, one J6 protester, Guy Reffittt, was charged with five felony counts and sentenced to seven years in prison. He did not enter the U.S. Capitol on that day, but he was with protesters on the stairs outside of the building.

His harsh treatment contrasts with the refusal to charge the mysterious Ray Epps, who was seen on multiple videos encouraging members of the crowd to enter the U.S. Capitol. In fact, he was at the barricades outside of the building firing up the protesters. While Epps denies that he was a federal informant, there are many unanswered questions about why he was given preferential treatment.

While Epps has not been charged, federal authorities are still on the hunt for more J6 Trump supporters. According to investigative reporter Julie Kelly, “You have new defendants, new people who have been arrested and charged...

The rights of the accused in criminal court have been under attack in the U.S. for decades. “Conservative” courts, have been particularly harsh on constitutional rights, and the jails have been filled. Anyone can be charged with a crime if he or she fails the attitude test and offends a cop or prosecutor. That is so because the U.S. has become an over regulated society, (except for our elections), in which the average American violates some law every day. Hopefully, conservatives will begin to demand more respect for the rights those accused of political crimes.

If this seems like the beginning of Dictatorship you are correct. When Republics have fake elections they are no longer a Republic, they are a Dictatorship.

Yet no one wants to name them all, and try to identify who may be an actual anarchist, versus who is more likely to be innocent. The more important issue they have all been denied their right to a speedy trial.

While Epps has not been charged, federal authorities are still on the hunt for more J6 Trump supporters. According to investigative reporter Julie Kelly, “You have new defendants, new people who have been arrested and charged...

Who again? And what did they supposedly do? Specifically?

The longer this goes on, the more and more it looks like a setup. And Trump’s complete inaction on the matter is starting to make him look complicit at worst, or a selfish manipulator of people’s lives at best.. The end result is Conservatives will be shy about ever protesting anything, again.

I would suggest Nancy Pelosi and Ray Epps.

Because of the the mountain of J6 lies Trump may think he needs to stay as far away from it as possible. It seems to me he could and should be speaking out about the constitutional violations and the deplorable treatment and conditions. I'm curious to know if there is anything additional that you think he should do.

He needs to say what everyone knows - not everyone there was a Trump supporter, and not everyone there was innocent. We need to know who the names and backgrounds are to separate who from who. And no one, not even the guilty, should be held this long without a trial, as it is a violation of their rights.

My guess is a lot of these people are guilty of something wrong. We’re only talking about a thousand out of a million people there, but some are likely innocent, and nothing is being done for them.

Instead Trump’s says “if I’m elected I will pardon them” which is wrong on many levels. What if you’re not elected, then they just rot? And what about the guilty ones, they get a blanket pardon too?

So the names have to be known, and sorted based on potential guilt, to determine their level of need of political support, and pressure put for all to get a fair and speedy trial, either way. It’s up to Trump though. Everyone else sees this as his mess to clean up, not theirs.

I get where you are going, and in principle I agree. But I think it is much more nuanced than what you have written.

If I am understanding you correctly, you think Trump needs to sort the J6 incarcerated based on likely guilt and provide political support to those deemed not/less guilty. I have no idea what that would look like.

Trump’s only power at this point is to expose what is going on. Saying that he should clean it up, essentially, “fix it”, may sound good. But it seems to me his options are limited, and good options are fewer still.

He needs to admit that some of the J6 prisoners deserve to be in prison, because some of them do. Taking a dump on the Speaker’s desk, as has been reported, is not acceptable behavior, no matter how much you may dislike the Speaker at that time. Admitting there was some actual lawlessness would help get the issue properly resolved for everyone, because most people just want the honest truth.

He also should be trying to defend those who have been indefinitely incarcerated for simply trespassing, if that has in fact happened. Or has it? Maybe it’s just a wives tale. We won’t know until those incarcerated are reviewed by crime type, criminal history, etc.

With Trump unwilling to even turn over a single leaf to find the truth of who these people are, we’re left having to assume most of them might actually deserve to be behind bars. They still don’t deserve to just rot there, without a speedy trial, but maybe they are all guilty of something if no one will identify or help them. And Trump not helping them is another indication maybe they all are guilty of crimes, after all.
