If they were doing CPR he had no pulse. They may have gotten one back after their efforts. There are other reasons an AED will not fire - if it does not detect a shockable rhythm. But I saw no mention one was even attempted
Indeed, most die, especially after 9-10 minutes.
Thank God he is alive!
Thank you for the post!
I knew a guy that died from tgat after a motorcycle accident. A semi pulled out in front of him and he laud his bike down a slid. The bike hit the truck and bounced back into him. The front tire hit him right in the chest. Died d with the paramedics talking to him.
Thank you. I have minimal medical knowledge and always appreciate an answer.
I suspect they will put him on life support, and wait for the rest of his relatives to arrive. Once I heard 9 minutes on CPR, and also judging from player reactions, yeah, it’s hard to see a happy ending here. All you can do is pray for this young man.
Funny - my daughter has an Ehlers Danlos dx
The suddenness of his collapse indicates a life-threatening arrhythmia. Confirmed by his receiving CPR and defibrillation.
9 minutes is survivable if it was good quality cpr. Prayers are needed. Only God knows this young man’s fate.
It bothers me that they said they were putting him into the ambulance but then had to put him back down to administer CPR. I would think they should have been doing that right away.
There appears to be a vascular variant of it that affects the arterial wall. I personally know 2 people that have it —both have aortic dissections that they have survived but many dont survive the event.
arrhythmia, yes
it’s not uncommon to have a pulse and then lose it again during resuscitation. I have had that happen several times during the course of one event
One would assume so unless behind closed doors medical staff were warned about an increase in such injuries and they haven't yet figured out what to do. CPR may be a desperation move.
Correct me if I'm wrong but CPR is normally done until an AED can be set up. In addition to each team having medical staff, the stadium would have several in the event a fan in the stands went into defibrillation. That they didn't use the AED points to the staff knowing he had a pulse but something else was going on.
OK Dr. Douchbag
My husband and I were watching when this happened. Praying for Hamlin. This is such a terrible tragedy.
Cincinnati reporters saying he’s intubated. Can anyone explain?
