A brother and sister say they had to stop 6 times in one day to charge their rented Tesla in cold weather after the battery drained quickly

Xaviar and Alice Steavenson wanted to find out what it's like to drive a Tesla, so they rented one from Hertz for a trip from Orlando, Florida, to Wichita, Kansas.

They say they knew the electric car would need charging en route — and expected it to take longer after the weather turned so cold in late December — but what the siblings didn't expect was just how often they'd need to plug it in.

Xaviar Steavenson told Insider it got to the point that the "battery would drain faster than it would charge."

I’m glad there are people like this to report info that bucks the established official orthodoxy.

As long as they feel good about themselves it doesn’t matter how stupid they are

I know we’re supposed to be enthralled about electric cars for the future and all of that.

But can’t we also say ,that electric car technology just isn’t there yet ,,for us to have a massive replacement of existing internal combustion engine vehicles?

And can’t we also say that people such as Gavin Newsom in California are foolish, to set an arbitrary deadline of the Year 2035 to ban the sale of internal combustion vehicles?

Libtard Gov. Inslee made it that in (2030-35?) that only electric cars will be sold in Washington. I’m was hoping for some outrage over it but I guess when the time actually gets closer, people might protest this. I can’t imagine how the low income folks are going to be able to afford these vehicles let alone be able to charge them.

Leftwing BI speaking against EVs, Tesla specifically... I wonder why.

You will be cold, spending time at charging stations and you will be happy.

Batteries do not like cold weather.

Another point. Here in Northern California roadways (even freeways) flooded rapidly trapping many motorist. Now a internal combustion engine can drive through some water, but what happens if a electric vehicle ends up on a flooded road?

Also, what happens when you attempt to drive over a pass in a snow storm? Are you going to make it? What happens when the batteries “die” and you are in the middle of a blizzard?

Electric vehicles may have a place (like a golf course or a second vehicle for short trips) but as a “bug out” vehicle not so much.

You’ll be able to buy a new ICE car elsewhere so I don’t see a problem. Also, the market may become flooded with “demos” with very few miles on them.

“so they rented one from Hertz for a trip from Orlando, Florida, to Wichita, Kansas.”

Did they seriously not to expect to encounter major problems with this decision?

The poor performance of chemical batteries in cold weather is a fundamental limitation of the technology.

Super capacitors fare better but shorting out a super capacitor with enough stored energy to transport a two ton road vehicle for 400 miles in a crash is going to be a very energetic event.

Rented from Hertz..

That’s the co. that has had renters falsely arrested for theft of their vehicles, right?

The brother and sister were lucky they just had to stop to charge the vehicle and not face false charges from Hertz..

All of the bad stories about Tesla seem to have come after Elon Musk bought Twitter and exposed the left wing government censorship. Is it a coincidence?

Oh this story must be propaganda. There are some here at FR that refuse to believe that electric cars are just plain stupid

The ruling elite isn’t going to be in EVs. They will be in chauffeur-driven gas cars, and we will be paying their way. As for the poor, we will be paying for their transportation too.

"A brother and sister say they had to stop 6 times in one day to charge their rented Tesla in cold weather after the battery drained quickly"

Guessing 20 minutes for each charge, that's 2 hours to charge, probably waiting in line too.

Additionally, it is being claimed that EV lithium batteries take longer to charge when they are cold.

EV CHARGING IN COLD TEMPERATURES COULD POSE CHALLENGES FOR DRIVERS (non-FR; 7.30.2018)

EV not for me.

This is one of my favorite images these days. A gasoline generator in the Tesla. I suppose one could describe it as converting your EV to a gasoline powered auto.
