While the pandemic prompted a well-documented exodus to, and development of, sleepy suburban and exurban towns, the Rosslyn Business Improvement District says it has identified a different Covid migration pattern.
About a quarter of Americans reported moving to cities where they could be within a 15-minute walk or bike ride of grocery stores, healthcare and parks, according to a national survey by the BID.
The survey also found 41% plan on moving to be within walking or biking distance of their preferred amenities — including coffee shops, schools and gyms — in the next one to three years. That’s in contrast with places that prioritize mobility by motor vehicle, with sidewalks and bike lanes as a relative afterthought.

You bring up a great point.
IMHO, here’s the kicker with these folks that participated in the survey.
They’re a bunch of white liberal, hipsters or liberal empty nesters. They want to be able to live in a ‘live work play’ community where it’s all boutiques, cafes, maybe a sports bar, a micro brewery, Orange Theory & Soul Cycle. All living, working and playing in their liberal whiteness.
And best part for all of them, brown folks are only allowed to come there to work. Can’t live in any of these places unless they’re Reid, Lemon, etc.

Sounds like virtue signaling to the pollster. If I had my choice in where to live, it would be a 15 minute walk to my neighbor's property line.
I did notice that "work" was not on the list of things in walking distance, unless you are planning on working at a coffee shop or gym.

I prefer not living in a city in the first place but instead, living in the country...with a car.
We live in the country, everything we need is close (by car) without going to the city. If I had to live in the burbs, I would want everything close or walking distance. I would not approve a mandate, but I doubt that will happen.
We live in a neighborhood like this, for over 20 years now. We can walk to the post office, grocery, drug store, park, library and other stores and restaurants. Church and hospital and beach are 2 miles or less. And very neighborly. If/when we move I’d like to be in a small town that offered that, if possible.
No, it’s not ghettos. Just the natural way of things. Just because we stopped growing our own food doesn’t mean we should have to put in a long drive to get it.
On the other hand, I live closer to a grocery store than I did before, but it’s an expensive one. You still need a car to get food at a reasonable price.

I have no interest in living in or anywhere near an urban environment. I’m comfortable in the ‘burbs or in the country, not in a city.
I suspect that when I can no longer drive I will have to take a driverless Uber to get where I want to go. But by then I’ll be too old and feeble to walk far anyway.
Look at most subdivisions today and you'll see that it's already happening.
They never mention jobs for some reason. Why don't they sell this as living on your employer's campus, so everyone at work knows your business and pleasure, and nets are installed to capture your fall should you slip out a window?
For most places on Earth, going out for a 15-minute walk has to be timed right, so you don't get mugged, sun burnt, soaking wet, or frozen.

More than 4 in 10 Americans plan to move to a “15-minute city” within the next 1 to 3 years?!? That’s some survey they’re quoting there.
If we were living in a free world, it would be nice. Smaller communities can be a good thing. I do believe that the natural urban environment is a house in a walkable neighbourhood, with a garden in the back yard.
However, our elite masters are not doing this for good reasons. They want to contain us in dire conditions, so we are always dependent upon them for sustance, just like blacks in ghettoes.
Do you think the black inner cities are positive environments, because that’s what they want for us.
If anything, the biggest lesson of the COVID fiasco should have been to get as far the hell away from any population density at all.

There is no reason to live in close proximity to anything that can be shut down by government bureaucrats with little notice and no recourse.
In fact, this is probably why the term place of employment is not included within the desired features inside this 15-minute travel radius.
I think you realized a further step in their plans
Fascism is a collusion by government and corporation. Anybody who lives on these plantations, let’s call it what it is, will only live well if they are abiding by the policies of the government and corporation. Those who cannot be sufficiently compliant can find themselves short in needs being met and even homelessness.
To keep it sanitized, I would expect them to scoop up the chronic non-compliants, to never be seen again.
