Ukraine really needs to send a lot of body bags of Russian soldiers to go home between now and the end of February to cause Russia to stand down. 600 a day may be enough to deplete Russian territorial ambition for a couple decades.

Donetsk, the city, is and has been on the front lines since 2014. The trenches run along its outskirts. It’s been full of military installations the whole time, including artillery batteries firing on Ukrainian lines.
