No. 3 TCU toppled No. 2 Michigan 51-45 for the biggest upset in College Football Playoff history and one of the most exhilarating semifinal games the format has seen since it made its debut in 2014. The Horned Frogs were eight-point underdogs at kickoff of the 2022 Fiesta Bowl, but the same DNA that helped them overcome more than a handful of second-half deficits during the regular season has the Frogs now sitting 6-1 in one-score games after eliminating the previously undefeated Wolverines.

TCU benefitted from a fumbled Michigan snap on fourth down and a no-call on a possible spearing call.
Meanwhile, Georgia made a furious comeback to take a 42-41 lead over Ohio State then withstood a last-gasp field goal attempt by the Buckeyes that veered way off course.
For underdog TCU, it was the first College Football Playoff (CFP) win in their school's history but also the first in their conference's history (Big 12). Georgia, OTOH, is the defending national champions and will look to win their second consecutive crown when the two teams meet in Los Angeles in nine days.
Two very good playoff games.
Caaaaraaazzzyyyy!!!!!
I went to bed at half time of the Georgia game and just woke up. Oh me of little faith!
Michigan was awful...never seen a team more not ready to play. Worst coaching job ive ever seen...for some reason, they kept blitzing a not very TCU QB and they got burned for long scoring plays at least 5 times..Ohio State - Georgia was well played...Mich-TCU was a train wreck...both teams.
Michigan losing a big game is never an upset. Not in football. Not in basketball.
Georgia took advantage of some bad calls to win. In close games like this one, that made the difference.
I was surprised at Michigan. I thought they would play for the title.
Am a fan of SEC football. However in the interest of the health of the game and good competition amongst leagues I have to go for TCU in the final game.
I don’t have anything against Georgia. It’s just that if it’s all SEC all the time people will start to migrate to watching other sports. Sort of a Harlem Globetrotters vs. Washington Generals.
If TCU wins, it will be the Horned Frogs’ first national championship since 1938.
TCU will win. Mark it.
TCU will win. Case closed.
For those of us who DVR’d the game from last night, please don’t add scores to the title of your article. Thanks.
How about underdog Pitt Panthers beating UCLA with a last minute drive and a field goal with 5 seconds left?
HAIL TO PITTđ
Yay, now I can erase the TCU game instead of watching it. Great way to start the new year,
During Covid I lived on 7th St and University in Ft Worth, the school party area. It must have been fun there last night.
I donât understand why this is considered an upset. Michigan sux. They lose every bowl game they appear in. I understand they dominated in the 19th century but, itâs time to move on.
For the duration of almost the whole game the Wolverines were playing too cute by half. If they played like the smash style they have all season they should have won convincingly. Why they kept tossing the ball to the sidelines for a couple pick sixes we will never know. The winningest team in NCAA college football history was embarrassing to watch, to score 45 points and STILL lose is something I cannot process.
It also tarnished whipping OSU a few weeks ago a bit too, glad they lost also in the last few seconds. Although it tarnished the Big10 somewhat yesterday I guess it was fantasy for a rematch for a national championship.
Almost 180 points in two games? Weather is no excuse but I bet if it was cold, snowy and nasty the outcomes would be different LOL.
There is only one way to safely watch a recorded bowl game in the morning post game day and that is to not turn on a single electronic device but go straight to the recording! The only thing you can reliably do is pick up a paper book or magazine. If you turn on your TV you better have had it set to a channel that does not have any news on it prior to going to the recording because as soon as you turn it on it will be on the news/sports and the score will be displayed! Also⊠the recording of the bowl games must record beyond the displayed time of the game as they go beyond the allotted time schedule! If you didnât record the post game shows you will not see the final minutes of the game!
Agreed about MI. Harbaugh would pass pass pass to the red zone then try stupid plays, cutesey plays and run it up the middle plays.
Ridiculous.
TCU had fire and determination.
Good luck to them against GA. GA needs to do some defense work. 51 points is not defense...
