The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you.
If you have specific question about a plant/problem you are having, please remember to state the Growing Zone where you are located.
This thread is a non-political respite. No matter what, you won’t be flamed, and the only dumb question is the one that isn’t asked.
It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. Planting, Harvest to Table Recipes, Preserving, Good Living - there is no telling where it will go - and that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us! Send a Private Message to Diana in Wisconsin if you'd like to be added to our New & Improved Ping List.
NOTE: This is a once a week Ping List. We do post to the thread during the week. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest to Gardeners are welcomed any time!
Some of these are a little too spot-on!

Many of my Basil beds reseeded and were full this year with no new planting. Especially the purple...
I like deep fried brussels and broccoli.
Measure twice, cut once; plant three times, harvest once.
Happy New Year to all!

Once it warmed up Christmas week, I checked the bees: they survived it in good shape. I was amazed at how well my weatherization project worked for them. R-5 foam insulation all around.
It was also nice that the tarp 'roof' over them meant not having to remove snow before removing the cover.
Yes. In moderation. They will make your soil more acidic if you put a lot on the beds.
However, any acid-loving shrubs such as Hydrangea or Dogwood, and fruits such as Blueberries, Blackberries or Raspberries and veggies such as Broccoli, Cauliflower and Eggplant also like an acidic soil.
I’ve gotten four so far. I’m thinking in this economy if you haven’t ordered from them in past years, you may not get a catalog this year. They are VERY expensive to produce and mail.
However - it’s still early. Come January, the floodgates will open. ;)

Yes, please.
Many thanks for these threads over 20+ years. From greeneyes to Diana. These threads have been so helpful. Growing food is a noble vocation. Even more great is to share that food and teach others. Every year it becomes more important.
I’d eat my own foot if it was dipped in Tempura and deep-fried!
I really like Green Beans that way. Fancy Schmantsy! ;)

Yay for Bees! :)
That’s how I feel by February!
We had a sleet-storm yesterday, but we’re going up to 40 today, so it will melt.
The dog slid down the front steps before I got them sanded this morning. He’s fine; he stuck the landing, LOL!
