Just looking for any Freepers preparing this dish. What seasonings are you using?

We just had both at a restaurant, for the first time. They went very well with the whole meal.

I haven’t heard of these for New Years, before, and now you mention this.

I’ve never made that. I’ve never even heard of it. Will have to see what that’s all about.

Agree on collard greens. Hoppin’ John with black-eyed peas, smoked ham hocks, collard greens and served over rice. Good for luck.

I actually made the olivier salad this summer...it was tasty, but so much prep work. Really liked it though.

Trying mustard greens this year vs cabbage. Onions, garlic and diced bacon in all of it.

Smoking a 19# brisket Saturday and Black Eyed peas will be served with it.

Black Eyed peas for New Years has to do with Sherman and Reconstruction.

Yep, it wasn’t a tradition in my Family. But now with wifey, 35 years and counting, everything is staging including the Corned Beef in the Fridge.

Nope. Not an Alaska tradition. We’re more likely to enjoy moose, halibut and salmon.

Well, my husband is of Polish/Eastern Eurpean descent, so cabbage and kielbasa it is!
I would actually prefer collards, they do better with strong sausages.

There ya go. Ham hocks preferred to ham steak, but this year, I’m giving in. (Truth be told… I didn’t have any ham hocks in my fridge…but a ham steak is sitting there looking at me.) Black-eyed peas and rice also on hand, besides the collards. Don’t forget the cornbread!!

I’m just learning that there’s a such thing as a New Years meal.

The wife brought back from the store today black-eyed peas and the THICKEST slices of bacon I have ever seen.

Can’t wait!
