After a terrifying encounter, a brave Chicago chihuahua is recovering safely at home.
A Chicago Police Department spokesperson tells PEOPLE that Jeanette Olivo, 61, was arrested Monday afternoon at around 3:20 p.m. on the 6600 block of W. Irving Park Rd in the Dunning neighborhood after allegedly stabbing the dog, who was being walked by his owner.
Authorities allege she stabbed the dog, a 12-year-old chihuahua named Bebe, three times before it was treated immediately with life-saving surgery at Premier Veterinary Hospital, NBC 5 reported.
Olivo was charged with a felony count of aggravated cruelty to animals and a misdemeanor count of aggravated assault/use of a deadly weapon, according to Chicago PD. On Tuesday, she appeared in court, where her bond was set at $25,000.
The 15-year-old girl who was walking the dog, and who wished to remain anonymous for her safety, told NBC: "I was terrified because I thought I was going to lose him."
She said she didn't recognize Olivo, whom the girl tried to avoid as she "was being a little fussy and acting a little weird." Olivo then followed them with a knife and stabbed Bebe, the girl alleges.
"I proceeded to punch her in the face and she fell on the ground," the girl told NBC. "She was still trying to stab Bebe, so I kicked her and that's when my neighbor started coming out and started screaming."
As the teen escaped unharmed and retreated inside with the injured animal, neighbors pursued Olivo down the street, where she was arrested.
The teen's father Sergio Macias told NBC that "justice" for Bebe would be that Olivo is sent to jail. "We're going to go to court. We're going to be there," he said.

Kid must have hit that woman with the ugly stick.
Now that is the Chicago I grew up in!
What is "brave" about a dog recovering from a wound?
Anybody or any animal would attempt to recover from a wound. Nothing brave about it. It's just what you do when you are wounded.
It's a pet peeve when words are diluted like that. Just like how everybody is called a "hero" for no good reason at all.
Stunning lack of context.
What prompted this woman to attack the dog? Did the dog first strike out at her? Was this girl threatening the woman? No context.
Poor little dog. She (Bebe) made it to 12 y/o, growing up along with her teenage owner. Chihuahuas are skittish enough without the very real memory of some Mad Woman slicing them up with a knife.
If the dog is going to have trouble even taking a full breath from here on, it’s probably best to put her down, but that would have to be the owner’s call. If the girl is not ready to let her dog pass on, no one could convince her otherwise. At least not right now. I’ve seen that scenario before, especially when it’s a childhood companion having grown feeble.

Sgt.Hank Voight: “It’s over, Olivo.”
I’ve often seen average people react strongly to a report of harm to a dog.
Many times I’ve heard “I’d like them to get hurt and see how it feels.” and if the dog dies “We need the death penalty for somebody who does that to a dog.”
I think it’s the good inner instinct the average people still carry within, as mankind is supposed to take care of dogs but other people should shrug off urban crime to people.
Either that Chihuahua has a bandage on his penis or he is hung like an Italian race horse!
In both photos of the perp here, her eyes are closed. I wonder what that’s about.

So they tell all, “The teen’s father Sergio Macias”
WOW!
Crazy is as crazy does
“She said she didn’t recognize Olivo, whom the girl tried to avoid as she “was being a little fussy and acting a little weird.” Olivo then followed them with a knife and stabbed Bebe, the girl alleges.”
It sounds like she Olivo may be mentally disturbed if the girl’s observation is accurate.
Guy. Fag. End.
Poor dog.
No blood or bruising: didn’t hit her hard enough.
The 15 year old was afraid to give her name…….her father’s name is in the article.
.
Jill Biden’s twin sister?
I couldn’t agree more! After my transplant surgery, I was laying in the ICU with a
14” incision across my abdomen. I wasn’t feeling BRAVE, I was hurting like hell, lol.
I’m not a chihuahua person, but I’m glad doggie is gonna be ok.👍
