Man Who Killed 16-Year-Old Girlfriend Is Sentenced To 90 Days In Jail

Holly Matkin December 28, 2022 Houston, TX – A 22-year-old man who fatally shot his 16-year-old girlfriend in the face last year will serve just 90 days in jail in connection with her death.

Alexander Valenzuela, then 20, was originally charged with murder in the April 16, 2021 shooting death of his 16-year-old girlfriend, Ciana “CiCi” Castro, KTRK reported.

Valenzuela agreed to plead guilty in October to a reduced charge of aggravated assault on a family member causing serious bodily injury.

Harris County District Court Judge Jason Luong handed down a shockingly lenient sentence on Dec. 13 of 90 days in the Harris County Jail and six years of deferred adjudication community supervision, KTRK reported.

Valenzuela was also ordered to attend at least 45 days of cognitive behavioral treatment at an intermediate sanctions facility, according to the news outlet.

The murdered teen’s parents said they were stunned and outraged when the sentence was handed down, KTRK reported.

Castro’s father had to be removed from the courtroom, the victim’s mother, Dulce Rodriguez, told the news outlet.

Rodriguez said that the judge allowed her to remain in the room, but that she was told she must quiet down.

Valenzuela’s defense attorney, Juan Guerra, said he also has two daughters and that he cannot “imagine the pain” Castro’s family has been going through, KTRK reported.

“A tragedy will never feel justified,” Guerra said. “The Valenzuela family and I pray they find peace.”

The incident occurred at the Valenzuela family’s home in the 11000-block of Smokehollow Court at approximately 6:45 p.m. on April 16, 2021, KHOU reported at the time.

Sponsored:

According to court documents, Valenzuela shot Castro in the face and called 911 claiming the shooting was an accident, but investigators noted there were numerous inconsistencies with his account of how the shooting occurred.

Physical evidence recovered at the scene also did not support his claim that the shooting was an accident, according to KTRK.

Investigators said he ultimately refused to cooperate with them, as did his family, KTRK reported.

Texas seems to be bi-polar. About 2/3 good conservative values and 1/3 ultra left.

I would think that even involuntary manslaughter would carry a lot stiffer penalty than that. If you accidentally mow somebody down with your car in a crosswalk, and they die, I’m guessing you’re probably looking at more than 90 days.

My sense is this guy will be missing from the planet in less than one year after release.

I’ll tell you, if the penalty for murder is a mere 90 days, then I think we can cleanup most of the problems in this country really quickly. We just need a bunch of people to volunteer to do what’s necessary.

Sounds like the prosecutor had a case for negligent homicide and no case for an intentional shooting. Hence, they got the felony conviction but had to give a negligent homicide sentence which would probably have been a 1st degree misdemeanor.

Seen it many times.

The 6 year probation will be violated and then they can put him back in. Also called the “rat trap” in prosecutor circles.

I hope. The girl was just a radiant beauty. What is it with some so called men that they could do anything to such a woman. I would have walked over broken glass for a girl like that when I was young. This beast destroyed her. One hopes some one will balance the books.

Fortunately, Luong lost his primary to the chief homicide prosecutor from the DA’s office, exactly because of crap like this and because he wasn’t trying any cases. Today is his last day on the bench.

The Democrat DA, Kim Ogg, basically got so fed up with the left wing judges that she encouraged prosecutors to primary them. Several of the worst judges, including Luong, lost their primaries, and Rs actually won a few other criminal benches this year.

My whole life I’ve been perplexed at how such beauties pick guys like that.

Maybe being a straight guy I don’t see some maddeningly beautiful quality he has. To me he looks fairly bland and dime a dozen type dumb hoodlum.

He didn’t plead to negligent homicide, but rather agg assault on a family member causing serious bodily injury. That’s still a first degree felony carrying a potential life sentence in Texas.

He was one of many incompetent and/or left wing Democrat judges elected in the 2018 sweep in Harris County. Those benches were all Republican before.

A decade ago, Harris County was basically 50/50 in Presidential election years and solid red in mid-term election years. Now it is pretty much solid blue in Presidential years and light blue in mid-term years.
