The way it works is a letter stands for another letter. For example: AXYDLBAAXR is LONGFELLOW (does not apply to today's cryptogram).

1st word by letter pattern, 2nd word by grammar, 4th word by filled-in letters, 3rd word, and the rest fell into my hands.
