The girl, who was enrolled at Diamond Ranch Academy, is the second teenager to die at a ‘troubled teen’ program in Utah this year.
A teenaged girl died unexpectedly Tuesday at Diamond Ranch Academy, a southern Utah youth residential treatment center, state officials confirmed Wednesday evening.
Joe Dougherty, a spokesperson for the Utah Department of Health and Human Services, confirmed the department’s Office of Licensing received notification of the girl’s death and are actively investigating in coordination with police officials.
“Our deepest condolences are with their loved ones as they grieve this sudden loss,” he said Wednesday evening. “We’re grateful for everyone who tried to save this youth’s life.”
Diamond Ranch Academy is a 108-bed teen treatment program in Hurricane that describes itself on its website as a “premiere youth residential treatment center with elite private boarding school opportunities.”
Hurricane police officials said in a statement that officers were called to the campus just before 5 p.m. on Tuesday to a report that a 17-year-old girl had collapsed after reporting feeling sick, according to FOX 13.
freestar Report an ad Diamond Ranch Academy told St. George News in a statement: “We are saddened by the sudden passing of one of our amazing students. Our hearts go out to her family and friends and the staff who worked with her and loved her.”
She is the second girl to die in a Utah teen treatment program this year. Another teenager died in January at Maple Lake Academy, a teen treatment program in Spanish Fork, after regulators say she did not receive adequate medical care despite her worsening symptoms and her parents’

So now every death gets a story in the paper?
Don't be silly, does every weather report have a climate change angle?
So much for using Fentanyl instead of methadone.
Every one gets their fifteen minutes one way or another.
Of course since teens rarely just drop dead and she was not in the care of her parents at the time there is perhaps a story here.
I’d say clot sho,t but teen treatment camps/centers have less than stellar reputations. The troubled teen/drug teen places have murdered off teens as well.
So 50/50 on this one.
A lot of people die every day - the vast majority don;t get an article.
And they don't get a dinner. Like Uncle Remus, who said to Uncle Ben, "You're a credit to your rice.".......Never got a dinner!
Many of these child rehabilitation centers are shady.
Sudden and unexpectedly...hmm...
Then why do parents turn what is of greatest value over to them?
Because they are desperate and unaware. Many, I’d say - most of these places have untrained employees. In some states, I believe TX is one, there are many unregistered locations. There are ways to run these centers without properly registering them. I’ve seen one too many videos and read plenty of articles about how horrific these teen centers are.

These “treatment centers” are usually little different than concentration camps. Was she attractive? Maybe some “therapist” raped and murdered her. This often occurs in mental health facilities. After all, the inmates are “troubled” and “crazy”. The hundreds of complaints of abuse are all “delusion”.
The information is readily available. I get that sometimes intervention is needed. That’s what makes this such a terrible situation.
These kinds of ‘camps’ are notorious. Diamond Ranch is no different.

I refer to these as “Battan Death March” camps. I’m surprised parent pay to send their little darlings to these camps....
At my school of a couple hundred someone would drop dead about 1 time a year. Two I remember. One girl died of meningitis and the whole school had to get tested. Another girl, cheerleader, the perfect symbol of youth and health, dropped dead right on the foot ball field. It happens.
WHat I would rather see are autopsy results.
What I’d like to know is what the cause of death was.
What? 200 students would die a year? Plz say you’re being sarcastic.
Fentanyl laced pills, would be my guess.
Put 30 drug addicts in a house together, do you think one of them knows how to get drugs?
Same reason they sent the kiddies to public school?
