It’s a Dell Inspiron 15-3501, just three months old, running Windows 11. After its first six weeks, its internal Wireless Adaptor [Intel Wireless-AC 9462] froze up, so I lost internet access. The Dell technician determined the hardware is fine and it’s a software issue, not covered by Dell’s basic hardware warranty.
So, I paid Dell $99 for a fix-or-don’t-pay phone session with their software technician. He had me try different fixes, and the ninth one worked: resetting the BIOS to Factory Defaults. Then, he offered me an ongoing service contract for $9 monthly. I declined.
Since then, the Adaptor has frozen again every week or so. Each time I have reset the Factory Defaults, satisfactorily. At this point it is a relatively minor inconvenience: it takes only about ten minutes each time to repair it, once per week.
You could take it to the FBI.
I hear they are real good with laptops.
Of course you might not get it back.............................😁
VPN problems?
That might be a little slow since only USB 2.0
I’m bald.
Try me..................
Ok, stories that would curl your nose hairs…..
Yes.
The problem here is it’s a Dell.
Sorry: “NIC”?
Thanks.
👍😜....................
Have you reset your gateway/modem?
I’ve been having issues for the last three/four weeks. Intermittant outages once/twice/thrice daily.
Everything works fine until it doesn’t.
Every thing works fine after gateway reset until it doesn’t’
Called ATT and they’re sending a technician today to do a check out and install new gateway.
BTW, I’m having this issue on three TVs, a laptop, and two dell computers. One of the Dell’s is about a year old and the other is about a week old.
If one is down, they’re all down.
Thanks.
Thanks. I’ll try it.
Ok. Sorry to hijack in advance. The cops use GPS obviously in their vehicles. This creates AVL logs by pinging every 3 to 5 seconds and gives their lat/long, speed and direction of travel. It all gets stored on a server. The GPS signal is split 2-3 ways depending on what software they are using. Accomplished via XPS Gate/Franson using virtual ports.
So most cops use a traffic ticketing software and Computer Aided Dispatch software in conjunction with 911. GPS signal gets split two ways. Add a license plate reader and it gets split 3 ways.
My old boss had the habit of “getting a great deal” by ordering hardware that was missing significant and necessary components—penny wise and pound foolish.
Around 2018 companies started phasing out external gps units (which actually still use com port settings despite being USB) Internal GPS chips had been rolled out for several years prior. This fell on deaf ears. Boss continued to order laptops w/o imbedded GPS chips thinking he was saving money, which forced us (me) to use the ancient Global Sat brand usb GPS devices (which lose their settings upon being unplugged) Global Sat stopped supporting their devices past Windows XP. They wouldn’t work on one motherboard in particular. We then switched to Garmin usb GPS which were being discontinued at the time my boss started buying them.
He literally bought serial port Garmin GPS devices that used a cigarette lighter port for non-passive power!
The next batch of tablets (that can clamshell as a laptop) he “forgot” to get the imbedded GPS chip since it was such a “great deal.” His response was “make it work” with the old GPS devices that stopped support after Win XP. Cops are all running W10 at the moment.
Not my problem anymore! I handed it off to the young dude upon retiring last month and warned him. Before I left I noticed he disregarded much of what I had told him and started to face the blowback. Now he can lose sleep at night.
LOL
Yeah my son is in the AF and had a job in procurement.
Sounds helpful. Thanks.
Yeah I hear ya. I did hardware for a repair shop and subsequently for many years.
I too have stories about tinkering. Oh yeah and the time my boss ordered a whole bunch of laptops for C shift cops WITHOUT backlit keyboards. He then had to order backlit k/bs separately and guess who had to install them all? I think the original NON backlit k/bs are still sitting in a box somewhere.
There probably is a newer version..................
