The hits on this horror show just keep coming. A joint report out this morning from the WaPo, Texas Tribune, and ProPublica will cause the bile and tears to well up all over again.
Oh, my God, is it hard to read.
Not just a retelling of some of the more gut-wrenching moments of the siege and botched operation, but a detailed analysis of the emergency medical response to the school shooting. Nineteen kiddos and two teachers died, and the emergency services story is another complete and total disaster.

Recently we had an emergency here, thousands without power in the dead of winter, and it was a day or two before even warming shelters could be set up. FEMA rules for emergency shelter require certain equipment and facilities in place, and there are resource and chain of command concerns.
Meanwhile citizens were saying: "Give me the keys to the High School, lets get people in where it's warm so they don't freeze to death in their houses and apartments!"
But noooo... Can't do that. Not allowed. Wouldn't be prudent.
After all, they aided and abetted the perp with every shot he made.
It’s time to sue somebody for billions whose only crime was discussing it.
There were five medical helos on the scene, but the report shows not one of them transported any child from either affected classroom off the school grounds. Supposedly due to restrictions on landing in a zone with an active shooter, but police were calling for medical evac helos within ten minutes of killing the shooter. And still not one landed in the schoolyard.
“And still not one landed in the schoolyard.”
And are you familiar with helicopter procedures and safe landing areas? This ain’t Hollywood. A Helo doesn’t fly in and just land anywhere. Especially around infrastructure. There are designated landing zones.
Medivacs don’t need pre-set designated landing zones. They just need a area nearby clear enough to land.
Best thing that can happen for the people of Uvalde at this point is for the a—hole media for stop hyperventilating and stirring things up instead of letting the people grieve their losses among family and friends, in private.
I can look at a map and see empty fields next to the school.
I’ve seen medevacs land in the middle of a 2-lane highway.
The primary lesson is that we cannot depend on those who claim we should depend on them.
“And are you familiar with helicopter procedures and safe landing areas?” Which was why so many died. Your precious procedures killed people.

Despite your dire warning... helicopters aren’t dropping out of the skies, painting a picture as if they are is false. If there’s a whiff of a wire hanging on a pole or a monopole light fixture or FOD, caution is exercised. Loose fencing, gravel, milk crates, pallets, loose gear... I’ve seen it all.
Oh, and despite Hollywood, nobody jumps out of a helicopter into a debris field.
Basically, ideally they like to have a 100’x100’ clear and fairly level field with no wires or obstructions. I’m sure the school field would have been fine.
