I don't know what is happening to EMS systems nowadays. Maybe it's because DHS and FEMA are more concerned about "domestic terrorism" (ie Republicans) that they have no way of dealing with actual emergencies.
Recently we had an emergency here, thousands without power in the dead of winter, and it was a day or two before even warming shelters could be set up. FEMA rules for emergency shelter require certain equipment and facilities in place, and there are resource and chain of command concerns.
Meanwhile citizens were saying: "Give me the keys to the High School, lets get people in where it's warm so they don't freeze to death in their houses and apartments!"
But noooo... Can't do that. Not allowed. Wouldn't be prudent.

One significant factor: The first two ambulances arrived on the scene, but the subsequent influx of law enforcement blocked the streets, as did the vehicles of panicked parents rushing to the school.

Can we include all the stupid police officers in on the murder charges the perp would have gotten?
After all, they aided and abetted the perp with every shot he made.

Best thing that can happen for the people of Uvalde at this point is for the a—hole media for stop hyperventilating and stirring things up instead of letting the people grieve their losses among family and friends, in private.

The primary lesson is that we cannot depend on those who claim we should depend on them.
