WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KTXL) — After searching for her dog for over a year, a West Sacramento woman is going to have him back home in time for Christmas.
Fourteen months after looking for her dog, Sandra O’Neil received a call about the whereabouts of her beloved companion, who was found approximately 1,600 miles away.
“When they told me he was Kansas, I was shocked,” O’Neil said.
Zeppelin, a German shepherd mix, went missing in October 2021.
A woman in the rural town of Louisburg, Kansas found Zeppelin on her property, took him in her home for the night and took him to a veterinarian’s office the next morning. It’s unknown how Zeppelin ended up in Kansas, but the veterinarian clinic discovered through his microchip that he was miles away from home.
Before he went missing, O’Neil said Zeppelin would go to an area near her house that was full of construction workers. Those workers would often give him food, water and treats. O’Neil said she would either pick up Zeppelin or he’ll return home on his own. One day, Zeppelin was nowhere to be found.
The night before she got the call from the veterinarian’s office in Kansas, O’Neil said she drove by the area he was last seen, wishing for him to come home.
O’Neil owned Zeppelin for 18 months prior to him going missing. Zepplin is about three years old. She named her beloved dog after the band Led Zeppelin.
Zeppelin began his trip back home from Kansas on Sunday. He is being driven back to West Sacramento by a woman named Mary Hastings, who volunteered to take him back home after she visited her daughter in Kansas.

Chip your pets. They work.
Perceptive canine. Everybody’s leaving California.
She let her dog romp with strangers at a construction site and they fed the dog and gave him treats. What did she expect would happen?
Smater than a bunch of bipeds there.
I’m not sure that Sandra is a fit dog owner.
The dumbass owner should get a nice slap upside the head for Christmas. Count one is letting any dog wander at all. It’s illegal and dangerous for the dog. Count two is letting a dog wander which, though I’m sure he’s very sweet, could look dangerous because of his breed
GMTA :)
(He almost got away!!!)
Even the dogs are leaving.
Even the dogs are trying to GTFO of California.
But are we sure it identifys as a dog? It might identifys as a human, a cat or a wolf? We shouldn't assume about its identity! 🤓
“The dumbass owner should get a nice slap upside the head for Christmas.”
Agree. Pet owners who let their pets roam free do not love them. And they’re scofflaws who deserve charges.
My thought exactly. Some responsible owner. Geez.
Zeppelin was led there....................

I’m up in the mountains and I’m dismayed at how many folks mistreat their animals up here.
My neighbor leaves her dogs out all day into the night — rain, shine, sleet, freezing, snow — barking constantly at every car that goes by, chasing those they could before being put into a fenced area. At night, she puts them in her garage, but that was only after we sent her a letter from our attorney when she had them out barking all night long.
Recently, the dogs killed a dog her boyfriend brought over.
Her daughter says her dogs are her children. Makes me wonder how the daughter was raised.
I wish I could say she was the only one. We drive past trailers on the backroads where dogs are chained by a 10 foot chain to a doghouse. Some are in cages. Our animal control department is useless in this county.
Dogs are social creatures. Dogs are domesticated animals. They are not wolves. They need attention, comfort, warmth, and more importantly, social interaction. When I’m not hunting them, our Weimaraner and Vizsla are right next to us — inside where they belong.
It’s surprising how many disgusting, abusive people there are in the world.
So, her little dog's not in Kansas anymore?
Best response yet!
Nothing makes me much angrier than when people essentially abandon their dogs and cats. All those owners ought to be punished exactly like they are punishing their dogs. Or on the other hand a dog loving neighbor or neighbors should
should might make similar arrangement.
My guess is that the dog was kidnapped by a sadistic trucker, then dropped in Kansas.
