I’m up in the mountains and I’m dismayed at how many folks mistreat their animals up here.
My neighbor leaves her dogs out all day into the night — rain, shine, sleet, freezing, snow — barking constantly at every car that goes by, chasing those they could before being put into a fenced area. At night, she puts them in her garage, but that was only after we sent her a letter from our attorney when she had them out barking all night long.
Recently, the dogs killed a dog her boyfriend brought over.
Her daughter says her dogs are her children. Makes me wonder how the daughter was raised.
I wish I could say she was the only one. We drive past trailers on the backroads where dogs are chained by a 10 foot chain to a doghouse. Some are in cages. Our animal control department is useless in this county.
Dogs are social creatures. Dogs are domesticated animals. They are not wolves. They need attention, comfort, warmth, and more importantly, social interaction. When I’m not hunting them, our Weimaraner and Vizsla are right next to us — inside where they belong.
It’s surprising how many disgusting, abusive people there are in the world.
Nothing makes me much angrier than when people essentially abandon their dogs and cats. All those owners ought to be punished exactly like they are punishing their dogs. Or on the other hand a dog loving neighbor or neighbors should
should might make similar arrangement.
