Historically, after Russians killed nearly 10 million Ukrainians in the 1930s Holodomor, many Ukrainians understandably welcomed Nazis in 1941 as liberators from Stalin's genocide.
After another 7 million Ukrainians died in WWII, no Ukrainian can have any illusions about Nazis vs. Russians -- let them both burn in hell, but right now it's Russian orcs invading Ukraine, and they must die, so Ukraine is looking for all the help it can get.
Now, if you are familiar with American politics, you well know how much the Left loves to brand any opposition as "far right" "Ultra-MAGA" and even "Nazis" given the smallest excuse to do so.
And so in Russia, the Left (Putin's orcs) claims Ukrainians are all a bunch of Nazis.
The only problem is, essential to the word "Nazi" is anti-Semitism.
You literally cannot be a "Nazi" without also being antisemitic.
Yes, you might well be something similar, "fascist" comes to mind, but not a "Nazi".
Indeed, if these so-called Ukrainian Nazis favor their elected Jewish president, then in reality, they are not even fascists, they are simply over-the-top, in-your-face, nationalists -- just the kind of people the Left loves to mischaracterized, but who can be helpful when your country is fighting for its very existence.
So, some have argued on these threads that since Ukrainians are less than perfect human beings, they deserve to be ruled over by, or exterminated by, Russian orcs.
Naw, that's crazy.
Orcs must die.
Increasingly, the incompetent replacements for the great masses of dead and wounded Russian soldiers are getting drunk on vodka.
Do you understand that in today's world, things are sometimes not what they're labeled?
For just one example, in the USA today, arguably the most violent fascist group we have are Leftists who go by the name "antifa", short for "anti-fascist".
So they are the opposite of what they claim to be.
Truthfully, I know next to nothing about so-called Ukrainian Nazis.
But I have to wonder, do they support their Jewish president?
If so, then by definition, they can't be "Nazis".
And do they support the democratic process which elected their Jewish president?
If so, then again by definition, they are not even "fascists", but rather are just over-the-top, in-your-face nationalists.
They are the kinds of people who look a little silly in peacetime, but who could be helpful when your country is at war for its existence.
Do you disagree?
Thank you...
Growing???? Please learn how to read a map. The Russians have been steadily LOSING territory since September.
Right, and it's worth keeping actual numbers in mind.
For the record, do your numbers include the Crimea?
So far as I know, they do -- can't imagine they wouldn't, since they come from Wikipedia and I highly doubt if they would recognize orcs in Crimea before the US government does.
And your view on it is what?
My belief is that Russia lacks the military capability to occupy the territory. Crimea is set aside because it is somehow different and I just don’t know .
The Russians hardliners have failed in their ability to take and hold ground. They are now engaged in war crimes as a desperate measure to inflict vindicative pain on the Ukrainian people.
Russia is now at war with the world.
In an action of weakness, Putin is now in Belarus attempting to make them tow the line and join his failing military efforts. It seems that Belarus like Turkey and China have deserted the Russian cause. With the possible exception of the worthless Kim of North Korea, Putin has no capable friends to bail him out
Sounds like we pretty much agree.
I personally don't think the actual military situation today, or some future time, has any bearing on the Russian legal claims over Crimea.
Legally, Russia's claims have no merit, seems to me, nor will they ever, regardless of how many divisions they station there.
We might remember that it's been, what now 70+ years with no permanent peace deal in Korea, or with Taiwan & China?
That's my guess about Crimea, assuming no Russian military or political collapse.
